Chapter 7: Taken From Life

Satis POV

Ever since Tomi got taken, I've been cautious and rarely gone on my phone. Lycus has been texting me 24/7 trying to check on me and the only response I've given them is that I'm fine. The only time I've actually texted everybody was in the group chat. Leaving home was the best thing I've ever done as a kid but sneaking into abandoned homes and apartments is a little risky but I'm a pro. 

"Hey Satis, nice to see you." G is one of my best friends I met him when I was 11 and he was 12 being homeless doesn't affect me as much when I hang out with him.  I wave to him and skate away looking for my next place to sleep. Noticing someone following me I look around looking for a crowded place to hide for a while. Seeing a diner in the distance I quickly skate over there and just as I thought the guy behind me followed. As soon as I entered I sat down at a table near the back and just in time I saw him enter trying not to act suspiciously. As soon as we made eye contact he rushed over to me. 

"You're a hard person to track Ms. Evergreen. But, the government has eyes everywhere you should thank your friend I think you call him G?" What! I try not to let my emotions show on my face and let the man keep talking. 

"You didn't know? That's surprising he told us you observe everything, but I guess you don't. But, that's not the reason I'm here. There's a teen who has powers that he supposedly got from a lake he hasn't told us anything else but, we know he wasn't alone. We figured you at least knew who he was and why he ran off with some kid only a couple of hours ago." Tomi got away. That's good at least but who did he take with them. 

"Who are they?" I didn't like this idea but I had no way to escape in the time that we've talked they surrounded the place. 

"Come with us and we'll fill you in on everything we can."  Ugh, that bullshit the "I'm sorry but that's classified information" I don't buy into that but I don't have a choice. I get up and walk towards the door. 

"Isn't there some paper I need to sign or some shit?" With that, I walked out towards the car which of course had blacked-out windows.

"Look at these photos and tell me if you know any of these people." I'm handed two photos of Gwyn and Tomi. The people in the room stare at me expectedly. 

"Sorry, I don't know them. Can I go now?" I need to keep my friends safe and if that means lying to the government then so be it. 

"Are you sure?" I nod at their question, "Then you wouldn't mind if we tested you to see if you have powers would you?" Oh, I don't know how would you feel if some weirdo filled your body with tubes and needles. 

"I'm sorry what was that?"

"I didn't say anything. Are you okay?" There's no fucking way he heard that I said it in my head. 

"I heard it. It seems like you can read people's minds and talk to them. That'll be good to know. I wonder what else you can do." After he says this he throws a pen at me and I flinch as it's about to hit me but I never feel it. 

"Amazing you might be more useful than Tominaga. Put her in a cell the men in power will want to hear about this." The next thing I know I feel a sharp jab in my neck and everything turns black.
