It had been a week since then. You had gone back to sleeping in Ellie's bed, Ellie held onto you tightly each night. You often wondered if nightmares pulled her from her sleep too. If she too dreamt of the horrors the world you lived in could bestow onto anyone. Tonight however, it wouldn't be fears pulling you and your girlfriend from sleep. It would be the warning bells ringing through Jackson. Louder than anything you'd ever heard.
"Ellie! Baby wake up. WAKE UP." You shouted shaking the woman from her sleep. When her green eyes met yours she took a minute to take it in. The warning bells peeling in the air, the absolute panic in your eyes. You got off of her leaping out of the bed and throwing on your clothes and grabbing your gun and knife.
"Do you think it's her." Ellie asked bluntly as she was doing the same. You could feel it in your gut, she was here.
"Without a doubt." You whispered. There was a rage that lived under your skin, driving you to protect those you loved. There are children here in Jackson, and you would gladly offer Abby and her goons your head on a pike. One look at Ellie and that determination in those green eyes knew she would never allow that to happen. Before you headed out into the town loaded with weapons and rage, you held onto her wrist.
"What?" Ellie asked confused, pausing her rush into the town she loved.
"I need you to know that I love you more than anything else in this world. And if anything happens to me, do not come after me. I'll come home to you. Stay safe out there El." You monologued seriously.
"If they take you I will not stop ever until I find you or I find them. I love you (YN), more than there are stars in the sky." Ellie furrowed her brows in concentration, you kissed her briefly trying not to think about the fact that it could be the last one you share. The town was silent except for those screaming bells echoing through the town. The streets were empty, something was wrong very wrong. Then, you and Ellie silently crouching through the town came across Jesse and Dina doing the same. The relief flooded you at the safety of your friends.
"What's happening? Where is everyone else?" You whispered once the four of you cornered yourselves in an alleyway to discuss without being exposed.
"Joel, Tommy, and Maria are out searching for whoever set the alarm off. Everyone else with children are supposed to hide in their homes until they feel they can escape." Jesse explained quickly.
"Wait. They don't know who set off the alarm?" Ellie raised a brow, frowning at that. She looked at you and you swore viciously under your breath.
"There's 7 of them if I counted right. They are vicious and they have no mercy, not an ounce of empathy. They are lead by a woman with a braid named Abby. If you come in contact with her absolutely do not engage. She could snap your neck and not even flinch." You informed quickly and quietly trying to emphasize how dangerous these people are.
"Jesse and Dina take the east side of town if you find anyone take them with you. Meet us at Joel's house. Go, be safe. Start firing if anything goes wrong." Ellie ordered. You embraced the couple quickly before watching them scurry off. Ellie watched you with concern filled eyes.
"Ellie I think you should go with them. I don't want you out here with me, they could hurt you if they see how important you are to me." You could feel her argument building up at you alone with a group of deadly criminals after you. "Please." You added. You would beg for her to go without you if you had to.
"No. I'm not leaving you alone. If they hurt you because I wasn't here to watch your back I'd never forgive myself. We're a team now (YN)." Ellie murmured tucking a strand of your hair behind your ear. You began to shake your head as tears filled your eyes.
"I can't lose you." You felt the panic creep into your voice. Ellie pulled you to her, gently holding you and whispering in your ear about how she would never leave your side ever again.
"If we don't die I'm going to marry you." Ellie confessed. You pulled away in shock, blinking at her.
"What?" You said dumbfounded. Ellie just stared at you and then sighed.
"Come on let's go, we gotta kill those mother fuckers." Ellie switched completely as if she hadn't said anything. She began to walk down the alleyway through the streets blending in with the shadows. All you could do was follow closely and cover her. Then the bells stopped. When they stopped so did you and Ellie. You two were crouched behind a stand someone had made on the side of the street and waited for anything really. You were half expecting Abby to drop from the sky into the street before you. But instead it was much worse.
There were 10 of them. 10 figures walking through the streets. One in the front you were assuming was Abby and then the remaining 9 in formation behind her.
"Why did we ring the bells? We could've grabbed her in her sleep and it would've been way easier." A man's voice reasoned lowly.
"I wanted this to be interesting." Abby's voice rang out clearly. She wasn't being quiet or reasonable. You and Ellie watched them move closer and closer to you. Abby was parading through Jackson looking for you. Loudly like she was expecting you to attack her soon, but as they approached you felt Ellie go still as death. The three extra people they had with them were not members of their little crew. In fact quite the opposite. There in the center with their hands behind their wrists and gags in their mouths was a nightmare.
Joel Miller.
Tommy Miller.
And Maria Miller.
No wonder Abby was so confident, she knew she took hostages you wouldn't risk. Not for your sake, but for Ellie's.
"Abby I don't like this. It's too quiet." A woman's voice warned. You watched as Abby turned to her and grabbed her collar viciously.
"I told you I wanted this to be interesting Mel. Don't ruin my fun." Abby snarled. While she was distracted you moved before Ellie could stop you and you walked into the street before her and her goodies, aimed your gun and before anyone of them could shout a warning, you shot out one of their kneecaps. Abby turned slowly letting go of the woman named Mel. The man on the ground was swearing and asking for someone to help him. But Abby's entire group was focused on you entirely.
"Hello Abigail." You said cooly, the rage sparking in your gut was enough to engulf Wyoming in flames. Abby pulled out her gun aiming it at you.
"Goodbye (YN)." And she fired.AN// AHHH cliffhanger ooooh. Thank you for 1K reads! Sorry for the once a week updates I just got a new job and it's a lot to manage at one time. Hoping to get the next part up sooner rather than later so to not keep you guys hanging! Have a good day!
