♫♫ One Call Away - Charlie Puth ♫♫
"Dadda," Cove said, stomping her foot on the ground by her bed.
"Cove, I've already told you that dadda is busy right now, and he is not here for bedtime," Brooke said, trying to get the toddler to understand, "Now you need to get in bed before I count to three."
Cove had been defiant all day since she normally would have spent the Friday with her dad, but he had to cancel because of some video he was helping Tommy film. She also had not taken a nap like she normally did, and this was causing her to be extra mean.
"No. I want Dadda!" Cove screamed.
"1-"
"No!" Cove yelled.
Brooke was struggling not to yell right back at the child. She hadn't slept well the night before, as she was up late re-editing a video for Jimmy because the video file corrupted and they didn't have any saves besides the raw footage; the video was supposed to be uploaded in two days.
"2-"
"Mommy, you are mean! I don't want sleep, I want dadda," Cove yelled once again. "Why can't I see dadda!"
Brooke just sat there on the edge of tears, her mascara already smudged under her eyes and her hair up in a super messy bun. She was so exhausted that she didn't know what else to do; everything that had worked previously with Cove wasn't working.
"Cove, please," She pleaded with the 2 and a half-year-old.
"No, I want dadda!" The child screamed, with tears starting to come out of her eyes.
Brooke stood up grabbing her phone, and went into the hallway.
"Hello?" His voice said over the phone.
"Clay?" Brooke said, her voice slightly cracking.
"What's wrong?" He asked, with obvious concern in his voice.
"She won't go to bed, and I didn't sleep at all last night because by the time I finished the video for Jimmy, and I was about to sleep, Cove woke up, and she didn't take a nap today, and she won't go to bed. She just keeps screaming and saying she won't go to bed without you being here, and she's never done this before and I don't know what to do, Clay."
---
After the phone call Clay had made it over to her house in 5 minutes, which was only slightly concerning considering it was a 15-minute drive when you were going 10 over the speed limit. He had put Cove to bed and made sure that she knew that she couldn't be mean to her mom just because he was busy.
Meanwhile, Brooke had moved from sitting in the hallway on the floor to sitting in the living room now with a tear-stained face.
The sound of Cove's bedroom door startled Brooke, causing her to refocus and looked up after a few seconds to see Clay standing there looking at her with a slight smile on his face.
"What?" Brooke asked, a slight irritation in her voice.
"Oh, it's nothing," Clay said.
"Clayyy," Brooke said, dragging out the last sound in his name while standing up from the couch," I'm exhausted, I'm tired, I didn't sleep at all last night. If you aren't going to tell me, then I'm just going to go to bed, and you can leave."
She started to walk back towards her bedroom when quickly Clay grabbed her arm and tugged her gently back so that she was close to him.
Brooke stared straight in front of her, at his chest, then slowly looked up at his face.
"I was going to say you look beautiful," as he brushed a hair behind her ear.
Brooke just stood there stammering because she didn't know what to say. Clay bent down and placed a kiss on her forehead.
"I'm sorry, I gotta go now," Clay said, heading towards the door.
"Why?"
"Well, I left my stream with sapnap and jschlatt, and I'm worried that Twitter will cancel me by the time I get back."
"Why did you leave your stream?"
"You needed me, and I would do anything for you," Clay said smiling, with a slight blush on his cheeks.
Clay headed towards the door when Brooke said, "Clay?"
"Yeah?" he said, turning around.
"You're my boyfriend now, officially. Like we are exclusive or however adults put it," Brooke smiled.
With the biggest smile on his face, he said, "I'll see you guys tomorrow."
