"Brooke we need to get going soon or we wont get to Savannah till really late," he yelled into her house. They were going to his parent's house in Florida to see them for Thanksgiving. "Dont forget that we still have to stop at the gas station for snacks and such."
"Clay I know, I'm finishing packing Cove's things." She yelled back into the hallway. They had planned on leaving around noon so that they could get to Savannah, the halfway point, at around 4pm. But something had come up at work and so it was currently 6pm.
"Okay okay, I'm done, I will go get this loaded into the car if you can get Cove all situated in her car seat," Brooke said coming into the living room.
"Okay."
----
"Hey babe, Cove and I are going to get her stuff, would you mind grabbing me an Arizona Iced Tea, and a box of apple juice for Cove," Brooke said as they entered the gas station.
"Sure," Clay said not responding to the pet name that she had used. They didn't use them very frequently as they were getting used to being back together. Nobody but their close friends even knew that they were seeing eachother again.
"Alright baby, you get chips and a candy do you wanna pick one out," Brooke said walking with Cove over to the snack ailse.
"This," Cove said pointing at the Tolli sour gummi worms.
"Are you sure those are going to be sour?"
"Yes!" Cove said very sure about her choice.
Running over to the other candy Cove grabbed a package of redvines and said "Daddy."
"You want to get those for dad?"
"Yes," Cove said handing the Redvines to her mom. Cove then walked over to where the chips were, as Brooke grabbed herself a pack of Almond Joy and a bag of Smart Popcorn. "Cheet-toes please."
"Alrighty what chips should we get for you dad?" Brooke asked.
"No." Cove said walking away to find her dad, Brooke following behind.
"Hey there you are. You guys ready to check out?" Clay said running into the two year old.
"Yah, she wanted to get you Redvines is that alright?"
"Yah that fine, I'm going to get some beef jerky while we are over here and then we can check out."
----
"Is she asleep?" Clay said looking into the rearview mirror of his Corolla.
"Yah she has been for about 30 minutes," Brooke smirked.
"Its because of your podcasts," Clay laughed.
"I know that's why I put it on. What kid doesn't fall asleep to Radio Lab?"
"True."
"We don't have to listen to this anymore if you don't want to, We can put on music or something," Brooke said.
"It's fine, we can chat if you want to, we do have about 3 hours left on the road," Clay said taking a sip of his pipeline punch monster.
"I dont understand how you drink those, aren't they practically poison?"
"Only if you have them everyday. Then it can cause a caffience dependency."
"Oh, we should play a game," Brooke suggested.
"How would we play a game we are driving."
"Would you rather live one life that lasts 1,000 years or live 10 lives that last 100 years each?" Brooke asked.
"So we are playing would you rather?" Clay chukled, all while trying to be quiet as to not wake Cove up.
"I mean do you have a better game to play while in a car?"
"No," He said sheepishly.
"So which would you rather do?"
"What was it again?" He asked.
"Live one life that lasts 1,000 years or live 10 lives that last 100 years each," Brooke repeated.
"I think that I would want to live 10 lives that last 100 years, only because I think that it would be really sad to see everyone die around you," Clay explained, "Okay would you rather be able to read or be able to read minds but be illiterate?"
"I think that I would just want to be able to read, Like I think it would be awful to read minds becuase what if you hear something you don't want to hear, or something you aren't supposed to know. Ya know?" Brooke said with a questioning tone.
----
"How much time till we are in Orlando?" Brooke asked. They had made it to Savannah around 11:00 the night before, and now they had been in the car for another two and some odd hours.
"We have like an hour and fifteen minutes left, How are you doing back there Cove?" He asked.
"Good, Look she's pretty," Cove said turning the iPad to show her mom the person she had given a makeover to on the app.
"She is pretty," Brooke agreed.
"You nervous?" Clay asked.
"Yah, I dont know. I can't tell if its because its your family, or if its just because we are going to be in Orlando, and I am always on edge when in Flordia."
"Yah I get that, I'm sure that everything will be fine. I promise, and if at any point in time you decide that you dont want to stay at my parents just let me know and I can get us a hotel. I promise they wont be offended by that."
"Okay," Brooke said, as Clay rubbed the back of her hand with the hand that wasn't on the steering wheel.
