I saw the two of them break into tears, which tore me apart even more. At least I was honest.
I told them the ways I could help them and the place I was taking them so they would hopefully cheer up at the reassurance of their safety.
"There's a man on the 14th floor that has a lot of food for both of you, you are hungry, aren't you?"
The kids nodded their heads. Now that I'm with the kids the only problem that I have is... Getting them back to the 14th floor safely. The monsters will surely scare them and make them scream, which would attract more monsters.
"In order to get there, we'll have to go into the hallway. There might be some monsters."
They both started to cry, I could tell that they were scared. This is going to be a problem, so I'll have to take their mind away from the monsters by doing something. How though?
"How old are the both of you"
I asked this since something came up in my mind, something that may or may not calm them down.
"I'm nine and my brother is six years old"
They were both so young... At this point I felt pity at the fact their dad died... I didn't want to assume they had no mother though. I hoped they did since they were so young and they will at least still have a family member after this. Thankfully I can help them gain strength within themselves, so they didn't get too scared. I smiled a little, to comfort them.
"You know, those are perfect ages to fight monsters", I spoke softly.
I chuckled a little, hoping they would believe me, but they weren't too convinced.
"Don't worry, okay? I'm going to protect you two I promise..."
They looked at me with their small innocent beady eyes, with tears holding themselves back. I gulped. It was time we moved out of this place so I could get these kids to safety.
