It was 4:00 in the afternoon when Holt's phone rang; the annoying, relentless ringing interrupting his alone time with Kevin. They didn't get to spend too much time together these days, as a result of the undercover work, and Kevin had gotten off of work early just to spend time with him.
Holt sighed, knowing he should get it, but wishing he didn't have to.
Reading his mind, Kevin put an arm around his shoulder. "I know it might be work. You should get it. It's okay."
Holt gave his husband a quick kiss on the lips. "Thank you for understanding," he said, making his way over to the phone. "I'm sure it's nothing."
Holt finally picked up the phone and held it to his ear. "Agent Santiago," he said professionally.
Kevin could only watch as his husband lowered his eyebrows in confusion. "What about him? Is something wrong?" Holt asked, looking perplexed.
There was a short pause as Holt listened to the agent on the other line, and suddenly his face contorted into a look of pure shock. "Keep everyone calm, Santiago. I'll be there as soon as possible."
Holt was officially in action mode, slamming the phone down and pulling his jacket on in mere seconds.
"Raymond? What's going on? Is everything alright?" Kevin asked, obviously worried.
Holt took a deep breath before he answered. "One of my agents is in the hospital."
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Holt never had understood why so many people avoided hospitals.
He quite liked them.
Sterile, efficient, like a well-oiled machine. Holt would often find himself going to medical appointments not out of need, but purely to enjoy the scenery and the scent of it all.
This, however, was certainly not one of those times.
One of his agents, his agents, was in trouble. Holt didn't know exactly what had happened, Amy hadn't told him many of the details. All he knew was that Peralta was injured. On his watch.
"Are you here for Jacob Peralta?"
Holt looked over to see Santiago, Boyle, Terry and the rest of the team run over to a young blonde doctor carrying a clipboard. Holt rushed over to join them, hoping to find out what had happened.
"Yes, we're his friends," Amy said frantically. "Is he going to be okay?"
"You're friend is going to be just fine," the doctor assured. The whole team seemed to breathe a sigh of relief.
"What happened to him?" Boyle asked emotionally, clinging to Rosa's arm for support. Rosa looked like she was ready to jump out a window. "He was fine when I saw him this morning..."
"We believe your friend took a very dangerous hallucinogen," the doctor said evenly. "We're still looking into it, but it appears that he took a very large amount of a new designer drug, I'm sure you've heard of it. It just came out a month or two ago, and it's already killing kids left and right. Just awful, really...running rampant in our school systems..."
"Wait, are you saying he took Giggle Pig 2.0?" Boyle asked nervously.
"I'm saying he definitely took something, and a lot of it. I'm not saying it's the Giggle Pig variant, but all of the symptoms point to it."
"Symptoms?" Holt asked.
"He was convulsing severely when we found him," the doctor said. "He also injured his arm by...jumping off the roof."
