Jake woke up the next day to harsh hospital lights and Boyle's smiling face looking creepily down at him.

"Jesus Christ Boyle!" Jake shouted, obviously startled. "Why the Hell are you looking at me like that?"

"He's awake!" Boyle announced excitedly, ignoring Jake's question entirely. "Come on, everybody! Jake's awake!"

"I appreciate the enthusiasm Charles," Holt said, coming up from behind him. "But...we are the only ones here, you know."

Charles gave a tiny smile. "...I know, Captain. I was just so worried about him, you know? And now he's back!"

"Yes, yes, it appears he is," Holt agreed.

"Do you guys mind telling me what's going on here?" Jake asked. "Boyle's starting to freak me out. And I mean more than usual."

"Considering the circumstances, you may want to be a little more respectful to Charles. He did save your life, you know," Holt said.

Jake nearly jumped out of his hospital bed. "Boyle saved me?! What? How come I don't remember this?"

"Well, you did hit your head while trying to escape from the ambulance, so I suppose it's only normal you're having some memory issues," Holt said.

Jake looked down at the hospital bed, seemingly realizing where he was for the first time. "Oh, greaaaat....thanks a lot, Boyle! You totally ruined my no-doctor streak! And to think I almost hit the ten year mark!"

Boyle shook his head. "Oh, Jake...You know I love you, but you do worry me sometimes."

Jake just laughed, suddenly feeling kind of fond of the guy. If Boyle did actually save his life, which it sounded like he did, he owed him a huge thank you.

Jake smiled. "You know Boyle, usually the level to which you care about me kinda scares the Hell out of me, but right now...it's kinda nice. Thank you, buddy. And I really mean it. You really saved my butt out there."

Charles blushed. "Aww...it was nothing," he said, trying to act like it wasn't a big deal. But Jake could tell it meant the world to him.

"Really though, Boyle. You really came through for me today. I mean, you actually saved my life...and all I've done for you is be a really shitty friend."

"That's not true, Jake," Boyle said.

"Uh, yeah it is actually," Jake said. "Why on earth are you even defending me? All I ever do is put you down. But you know what? I had no right to do that. You're a Hell of a lot braver than I'll ever be, Boyle. I just hope you know that."

"...Wow," Boyle replied, obviously touched. "Wow. You didn't have to say all that..."
