It was a lovely Saturday morning, and for once in her life (Y/N) decided to wake up early and take a short morning walk to the nearby beach.

She took her paint supplies, breakfast brownie and got dressed into a shin-length beach dress. She also put on a big floppy sun hat.

(Y/N) lived by herself after her parents died. Since it was a small village, none of the elderly people seemed to mind her living by herself. They would sometimes bring hot dinners to her small beach-side house, or bring her homemade desserts as a special treat. Let's just say she was a village favourite amongst the elderly.

She did know a few people her age, but she wasn't all that close with them. She's just seen them around a few times.

Anyway, you could consider (Y/N) to be a bit of an art nerd. She absolutely adored painting, whether it was watercolour, oils, acrylic, you name it. She especially loved to paint landscapes.

She breathed in the salty beach air as the sand got stuck in between her toes. Since there wasn't a single soul on the beach except for her, she decided to kick off her sandals and run on the shore for a little.

After that, she sat down on a foldable chair she brought and ate her breakfast brownie. (She calls it that to make it sound healthier, but it's still a brownie)

When she was done, she took out her portable paint set with her watercolour supplies inside. She started to paint what she saw. She liked to sit while holding her painting on her lap.
She got very invested in it, and she didn't notice someone else come up beside her.

"Uh, hello miss?"

(Y/N) jumped at the unexpected sound.
Whoever said that had such a kind and loving voice.

She turned around and saw a boy about her age with strange hanafuda earrings standing behind her.
"O-oh, hi there." she said rather shyly.

"Sorry if I disturbed you... I just wanted to tell you that your painting skills are unbelievable! I could never do something like that!" He said with a sweet smile.

"Thank you. But I'm sure you've got your own talents." She said and turned back to her painting.

"You're right about that! Everyone has something they love to do, right?" He said cheerfully.

(Y/N) just nodded. She wasn't sure how to act around boys. She knew she was supposed to "act natural" but it was still hard.

"Sorry, I guess you're not much of a talker. I'll leave if you want." He said and started walking in the opposite direction.

"Ah- wait a sec!" (Y/N) yelled softly. The boy turned around with a surprised look on his face.
Even (Y/N) was confused as to why she had called out to him. She barely knew him. So... why?

A small blush appeared on her face as the nice guy came jogging back to her.

"So you did feel like talking after all, huh?" He said jokingly.

"Uh, yeah, I guess." (Y/N) smiled gently.

"Hey, I never got your name. Mine's Tanjiro Kamado." He said and held out his hand.

"I'm (Y/N) (L/N). Nice to meet you Tanjiro." She accepted his handshake.

She invited him to sit down on a beach mat she had brought with her so they could talk for longer.

"Not a lot of people come to this beach. I wonder why. It's gorgeous." Tanjiro said as he closed his eyes and let the wind blow his wild hair.

"Yeah. I rather enjoy the peace and quiet though." (Y/N) said as she dips her brush into more paint.

"Hey (Y/N), how about we ask each other 10 questions each, taking turns. That sound good?" He asked while staring into space.

"S-sure." (Y/N) replied.

"Alright then. Ladies first." Tanjiro smiled, looking up at     (Y/N).
She let out a sigh as she thought about what to ask him.

"What's your favourite food?" (Y/N decided to go with one of the basics.

"Hmmm... plum seaweed rice balls. They're great." He licked his lips as a cute, dreamy face appeared on Tanjiro.

"Your turn." (Y/N) said quietly.

"Alright then... how many relatives do you have?" he asked her.

"Well... my parent's died in a plane crash. And my grandparents died of old age. I was an only child, and I didn't have any aunts or uncles. So basically I'm the last of my family." (Y/N) explained.

"Oh no! Did I touch a tough subject?" Tanjiro sounded concerned.

"Not really. The older people back in the village take care of me. I'm not able to afford a lot, but I live a stable and pleasant life." She said as she smiled.

"Ah, I see. That's good to hear." Tanjiro sighed and decided to lay down and watch the clouds.

"K, my turn again. How many relatives do you have?" (Y/N) questioned.

"Well... my father passed away when I was young. I used to be a city boy, you know. But most of my family got attacked by a murderer in the apartment we lived in. The only one still alive with me right now is my younger sister, Nezuko." He answered and paused. This was obviously a hard topic for him.
"I-I'm really sorry... You don't have to answer the rest." (Y/N) frowned, feeling a bit guilty.

"Nah, I will. Anyway, my sister doesn't really talk anymore because the whole incident kinda... traumatized her. Well, after I got her back from the hospital, we got on the train to the most peaceful village I could find that was somewhat close. Then, an old man named Sakonji Urokodaki took us in. In return we help him manage his bakery." He smiled as he finished his story.

(Y/N) looked at him with a sad smile.

"That's so sad. I'm sorry Tanjiro." She apologized for the second time.

"It's fine! Really! The whole thing is kinda behind me now." Tanjiro said frantically.

There was a small silence where both pondered, before Tanjiro remembered it was his turn to ask a question.

"Oh! What's your favourite animal?" He said smiling.

"Oh that's easy. (Favourite animal)." Said (Y/N) as her paintbrush swept across the paper.

"That's a nice one! It'd have to be crows for me. There's one that likes to hang out around our house a lot. I named him Matsuemon Tennouji." Tanjiro smiled when he thought about the silly crow.

"That's... a pretty long name for a bird..." (Y/N) chuckled.
"I guess. Okay, your turn to ask!"

Before they knew it, it was already noon. Tanjiro promised Urokodaki he'd be back by 2:00.

"Ah geez, I gotta go now!!! I'll see you around sometime, (Y/N)! You're a great person to talk to!" Tanjiro said as he got up and brushed the sand off himself.

"Hey Tanjiro, wanna exchange numbers? I mean, if you want to." (Y/N) said, looking right into Tanjiro's bright red eyes.

"Y-yeah! Of course!" he said and smiled.

"Cool! We can use some of my paper." (Y/N) said as she ripped a few pieces off of her sketchbook (while crying inside).

After the numbers were exchanged, both of the teens left the dream-like beach and returned to their houses.
