Chapter 21

~Hermione's POV~

The snow stuck to the ground whilst fresh layers built up, until it was about a foot deep. Everyone rushed outside, after the final lesson, on the last day of term, to have a massive snowball fight. Draco and I stayed back, warming and relaxing by the fire, enjoying a large mug of hot chocolate. However I soon regretted the choice, yearning to be in the snow. Draco thoughts mirrored mine as he asked, "Would you like to take a walk around the lake?" I nodded excitedly and shoved my warm winter boots on.

We raced each other outside, and in my hurry to beat him, I slipped on an icy patch, wobbling as I began to tumble towards the ground. Draco's strong arms wrapped around me and held me up, he looked down at me and said "Be careful, it's slippery." I rolled my eyes at him, before awkwardly attempting to escape his grasp, he realised what I was trying to do and quickly stood me upright, a slight red tinge creeping up his neck, he looked around uncomfortably, before beginning to walk towards the lake with me at his side.

We wandered closer to the magnificent lake and marvelled at its wondrous beauty. I gasped; underneath the sheet of frozen ice, merpeople were visible, swimming freely in its depths. We gradually strolled around, not taking our eyes of the Great Lake. My arm brushed against Draco's, and this time I felt heat rise to my cheeks. We walked in silence, it was a content silence, lost in our own thoughts. A tingle ran through the tips of my fingers. Upon looking down, I saw Draco gently stroking the back of my hand with his fingers; every touch sending electric jolts up my arm. I couldn't get enough of it. I continued to look down at our hands as they moved. Draco put his palm against the back of my hand, before slowly slipping his hand nervously into mine, interlocking our fingers. More tingles flew up my arm. I instantly looked up at him and he was staring down at me, smiling. He gently brushed his thumb against my hand, I shivered at his touch, and once again felt my cheeks redden.

We continued walking, our hands gently laced together, appreciating the serene view. Just at that moment, Draco slipped and, due to our locked hands, I fell with him. He lay on his back in the snow and I landed on top of him, staring down at him. "Be careful, it's slippery." I muttered, mocking him. He laughed, a low, deep laugh that caused butterflies to dance around my stomach. I gazed into his sparkling blue eyes, as I carefully traced his strong, sharp jawline with my finger, he shivered at my touch, flexing his jaw. My heart fluttered. I noticed that just above his left eyebrow, he had a mark due to frowning too much, I delicately stroked it and he instantly relaxed, the mark faded away, leaving a restored Draco in its place; a Draco that I would cherish. His eyes captivated me; they swirled, just as deep and mysterious as the lake beside us. As I stared into his eyes, I found something I had never seen before, a green speck hidden within the blue sea. Slowly moving my hand up to his silky, golden hair, I ran my fingers through it, never breaking eye contact. A strong surge of emotions washed through me, our faces were only inches apart, and the urge to close the gap between us grew. I stared at his soft, luscious lips. All my feelings for Draco, that I had been denying and hiding, poured out in flood of love and lust. New found confidence from deep within, pushed me, as I slowly moved closer and closer to him, staring into Draco's deep blue eyes, round with the realisation of what I was about to do. Just as I was a centimetre away from him, he cautiously closed his eyes; I took this as permission to continue. My heart pounded, as our lip's grazed each other's.

The longing became unbearable, and I softly placed my lips on his. Electricity shot through my body. It was magic; our lips connected as though they should never be apart, I felt fully at one, for the first time in my entire life. Something inside of me melted away, and everything from deep within me awoke; all my dreams and desires, all my secrets and promises, I felt alive and enchanted. He kissed me back and my hunger grew stronger. He was intoxicating. I tightened my grip in his hair and deepened the kiss. Draco responded quickly, moving one arm around my waist and pulling me closer to him. Fireworks exploded inside of me. I could feel the rhythm of his hammering heart and could taste the sweet, juicy, green apples on his lips.
