It's already morning, Aiden is still asleep, I get up from bed and wear the clothes I came in wearing the first day. I kiss Aiden on his forehead and whisper " I like you too" . I open the door and see Lydia waiting for me by the lake. I look at Aiden one more time, he wakes up, his bright eyes looking my way, feeling helpless to change my mind.
He doesn't say a word, I know he's scared for me, that I won't come back, but I know it's for the best.
" Goodbye, for now " I say, then leave.I walk up to Lydia, and for once she doesn't say something mean.
-I brought clothes for you to wear. You can change in the back of the car.
We get in the car and I change my clothes, which feels good, it's been a while since I've worn clean clothes that fit me.For the next hour we don't share a single word. After an hour of driving she stops the car and goes to a coffee shop.
I wait for her in the car and sit in the front seat, I can't stop thinking about what Jaxon knows that I don't.
The secrecy is killing me and I just want to arrive already. Lydia comes back with two coffees, she offers me one. She finally breaks the silence between us.
-So, we're not going to pretend like Aiden hasn't talked to you about me.I don't know why it would matter to her or what she's waiting for me to say.
-He did. You guys were a thing back then and now it's over.
She looks at me and smirks. She honestly needs to stop doing that. It's obvious she's trying to pick a fight with me.
-That's all he's said?
-That's all I need to know, I reply in hope of ending this conversation.
I never know what's going on in her mind and I don't have the nerve to try to figure it out, I'm already stressed as I am.I ask her; -Do you know what Jaxon wants to tell me?
-Not my business, so no. Jaxon doesn't tell us anything about you. So tell me, who are you, Jayden... what exactly ? What's your last name?She never fails to surprise me at how much she thinks I trust her to give her information about myself.
I ignore her question and look out the window.
-What? You wanna stay all mysterious? It's not like you're someone important now c'mon.I really pity her, she has no idea whose niece I am, I bet she doesn't even know that I was involved in this dirty mafia life of theirs. I know my uncle abused me and treated me like a prisoner, but if I were to tell him to kill someone he wouldn't have to think twice. And he wouldn't do it because he'd be doing me a favor, but because he never needs an excuse to kill. He kills for fun. And that's why he's the most feared.
After a few hours of driving, I notice that she took us to Jaxon's house, not the underground. We enter the house, right into his office.
He's looking out the window with a glass of whiskey in his hand. Lydia knocks on the door for him to notice us, he turns around to us with a serious look on his face.
-Anything I can help you with boss? Or can I leave? She asks.
Jaxon silently puts the glass of whiskey on his desk, then proceeds to sit on his chair and waves for Lydia to leave. He tells her to close the door behind her, she does so and we're left alone, and I have no idea what to expect from him.
He looks tipsy and it's only noon.
He tells me not to be afraid of him and sit in front of his desk.Jaxon takes a sip from his whiskey. His unusual calmness makes me nervous. It seems as if he doesn't have anything to say and it's making me inpatient to know.
-Are you going to finally tell me what you know about my parents, or are we going to keep on staring at each others?
He puts his whiskey down and reaches his hand out towards me on the desk. I look at him and ask him what he's trying to do.
He asks me to hold his hand, which I find odd, but I still do for the sake of him finally speaking up.
I hold his hand while he's looking at me as if he's starting into my soul.
-Jaxon, what's going on with you? You seem drunk.He lets go of my hand and it stays silent.
He then asks me;
-Where did you and Aiden go?
He knows I won't answer him that.
I simply say;
-Lydia knows, why don't you ask her?He smiles and says;
Because I want to see if you trust me enough to tell me.
-It's not me who doesn't trust you to let you know, it's your brother, remember?
Suddenly his face changes, he looks down defeated.If Aiden doesn't trust his own blood why should I?
Jaxon looks at me and says;
Don't get mad at me at what I'm about to say next.I wonder what he's about to reveal to me. He asks me to promise that I won't get mad, so I tell him;
I can't promise something I'm not sure of, but I'll try.He then says;
I don't know anything about your parents. I just said that to reel you in, you should stay next to me, especially now.How could I be stupid enough to believe him in the first place.
-What the actual hell do you need from me Jaxon? You just made a fool out of me. And for what?
-Look, I'm sorry okay? I had no choice. I know I'm not telling you everything and you're probably lost right now, but you need to stay with me for important reasons that I can't discuss.
-I'm amazed at how selfish you are. Do you even realize that you don't make any sense?
-What do you mean, he asks.
-First you tell me you were aware the whole time of my identity, you knew who I was and that I was wanted, then you tell me you saved me because you needed me in, but can't tell me why, and now you want me to stay next to you. What the actual fu--Slow down there. Look, go up to my room, change your clothes, I'll take you somewhere it'll all make sense okay? You'll know the truth, I promise this time.
-Why should I believe you this time?
He asks me;
Do you have another option?
-Right.
