Two, three, four minutes pass by, and Jaxon doesn't say a word. He stays still.
He looks at me, his tears drying up, he's left speechless.He doesn't deny it. I had a feeling he wouldn't. He also works in a gang. And I figured it out on my own.
—How do you know?
—Why aren't you denying it? Or even trying to? I ask him.
He looks at me, his eyes facing the floor, he looks defeated, weakened, not like his confident, bossy self.
I come closer to him and ask him gently;
—Jaxon, are you okay?
He simply sits back, and doesn't say a word. He then looks at me and says
—What gave it away? I knew it was a matter of time before you figure it out, I mean you're the most powerful mafia leader's niece. It isn't any surprise to me that you would figure it out sooner or later. But tell me, what gave it away?I look at him and smirk, someone finally doesn't underestimate me.
To be quite honest, I wasn't even sure of myself when I said that. I was only saying what came up to my mind and suddenly, it all made sense. Aiden saying he didn't want to be a part of it anymore, the strange but familiar signs all around me, the meetings.
—Code red? Interrogation room? Backup? I think it was clear enough for me as it would be for anyone else.Jaxon doesn't seem mad nor disappointed that I figured it out. He predicted that it would happen, but why didn't he prevent it?
—I lost not only one of my best men, but one of my best colleague, friend and childhood friend.
—I am truly for your loss.I wish it could be everything I wanted to say, but I couldn't stop myself from asking more. Maybe more than I should for now.
—Jaxon, I know it may not be the best time to ask, but you owe me an explanation. Why did you save me from dying on the streets?
He looks at me surprised as if what I asked was coming out of nowhere.
—What do you mean why I saved you? I saw you lost and it was obvious to me that you were in trouble. I did what anyone else would do.—Anyone else would've taken me to the cops, so that they could find my way back home. But you knew that even cops weren't safe. You knew some mafia members would be there...
And suddenly it came to me;
—You knew, I was wanted by my mafia leader, my uncle.
I suddenly tremble, I can barely feel my legs anymore and it all rounds up in front of my eyes.
