𝗙rankie slammed the front door behind her, the sound echoing through the quiet house as she huffed in frustration. abby, her older sister, looked up from her spot on the couch, concern etching her features. "whoa, what's wrong with you?" she asked, her eyes narrowing as she studied frankie's stormy expression. before frankie could muster a reply, a soft knock broke the tension in the air. sighing heavily, frankie strode over to the door and opened it, only to find lucas standing there with a sheepish smile.
"i thought i told you to leave me alone?" she snapped, the irritation barely concealed in her voice. lucas rubbed the back of his neck nervously. "i just wanted to check if you were okay."
"i'm fine," frankie replied curtly, her temper flaring again as she abruptly closed the door in his face and stormed up the stairs to her room. "frankie!" abby called after her, rushing to the door and swinging it open. "i'm really sorry about that. she would never do that. come in."
lucas stepped inside, nodding as he tried to shake off the awkwardness. "i won't take it personally. i know she would never slam the door in my face," he said, forcing a grin. he turned toward the staircase, glancing back at abby with a mix of hope and trepidation. "wish me luck."
"good luck," she smiled back, her eyes sparkling with encouragement.
taking a deep breath, lucas slowly climbed the stairs, his heart racing with the resolve to break through frankie's wall. when he reached her door, he stood there for a few moments, gathering his thoughts before knocking gently.
"i don't want to talk!" came frankie's muffled voice from the other side, laced with irritation.
lucas knocked again, a little louder this time. "please leave."
another knock, "no."
he hesitated for a moment, then lifted his hand to knock again, but the door suddenly swung open. frankie's fiery gaze met his, an exasperated expression plastered across her face. "why won't you go away?"
"because i'm not leaving until i know you're okay," lucas stated firmly. frankie huffed, arms crossed defiantly. "please don't slam the door in my face again. it hurt, you know."
rolling her eyes, she shifted her weight, clearly annoyed. "why won't you talk to me? what did i do?"
"you won't leave me alone; you won't give me space to breathe," frankie explained.
"just go," she repeated, slamming the door again, but lucas was quick and managed to slide inside before it closed completely.
"i'm not going anywhere until you talk to me, frankie," he said resolutely.
