𝗙rankie was halfway through buttering her toast when she heard the front door close behind elle.
"ethan's outside," elle had called, grabbing her bag and heading out. "don't be gross at the door!"
frankie had just laughed, cheeks already warm. "no promises."
now the house was quiet again, but not in a lonely way. just in the way mornings sometimes are slow and golden, sunlight crawling through the kitchen windows and warming the tile beneath her socks. she popped the rest of her toast into her mouth and headed to the front room, brushing crumbs off her sweatshirt.
she didn't even have to look through the window to know he was here.
two taps. pause. one more.
frankie smiled before she even opened the door.
lucas stood there in his usual hoodie, backpack slung over one shoulder, and in his free hand flowers. not some giant romantic gesture. just a small, slightly lopsided bouquet. yellow ranunculus, like always, and a few little wild daisies tucked in like an afterthought.
he held them out casually. "weekly delivery," he said.
"do you ever get tired of being perfect?" she asked, taking them from him as she stepped aside to let him in.
"never. i'm very consistent."
she rolled her eyes, but she was still smiling as she moved to grab a glass for the flowers. he followed her to the kitchen, leaning on the counter like he lived there.
(which, honestly, he kind of did.)
"elle already left?" he asked.
"yeah. ethan picked her up. which she was very excited about."
lucas raised an eyebrow. "oh?"
frankie grinned as she filled the glass with water. "don't start. they're not official or anything."
"yet." "stop."
he laughed, and she turned around, holding the now-flowered glass in her hands.
"but yeah," she added, a little softer. "i'm happy for her. even if it means she's not always around to third-wheel me and you."
lucas stepped closer, reaching to tuck a strand of hair behind her ear. "you miss her?"
"i mean... yeah," she shrugged. "but also we literally share a house and a bathroom, so like... i'll live."
