I saw this prompt idea somewhere online where you get 50 random words and make short stories from them so I decide to do it with my 'The Player and The Freckled Girl' story.
None of the events are in chronological order but it carries on with the life's of Dan and her family and friends. Both before, during and after the main story took place.
1. Cold
"Why did I even agree to this" Dan whined for the third time this past minute having already covered up her entire face with scarfs and hats
"Because you love me and, Oh yeah!" Alex says, sarcasm lacing her voice, "You owe me!"
Dan can't help but role her eyes towards Alex's behaviour having felt like she's already payed her debt a few times over, but she supposes helping take down a mass murderer will have a long line of I-owe-you's to be paid off.
"But it's cold! I can barely feel my fingers under here!" Alex just turns to give her a pointed look
"Suck it up then!" She hisses angrily, "And Christ, to think you survived without me at one point, is beyond me."
2. Question
"Let's says I have a hypothetical question and I wanted a hypothetical answer?" Dan states finally breaking the silence between Kelley she'd built over the last few minutes
"Give it to me then" Kelley sighs, leaning back against her dorm bed
"Say you knew what you wanted to do in the future and you'd always had this same idea but then suddenly you start thinking it's not for you and you actually really want to pursue something else, but you're scared it could go wrong and everyone would probably think you're crazy for wanting to do it, what would you do?" Dan spills out in one long ramble shocking Kelley into another silence
She spots the nervous look on her girlfriends face and the fiddling fingers to know to tread carefully "Ermm, wow Dan that's a seriously big hypothetical question,"
"I'd probably go for it if I knew it was now what I wanted, feelings change towards things and a big decision like a future career shouldn't be taken lightly" Kelley answers as more of a direct response to Dan than a personal reply but her girlfriend is too wrapped up in her own thoughts to notice the direction
"Okay but say you're worried all your family might say its a bad idea and you don't want to let them down because they've given you so much?" Dan adds leaning forward to engage with Kelley more
"Then they wouldn't be a very good family, they should support you no matter what and that includes a sudden change in career plan too" Dan sits their in thought for a few more seconds, carefully taking in Kelley's words and formulating how she's going to tell her what exactly the change in career she was talking about
"Just tell me Dan, you know I'll be by your side no matter what" Kelley asks softly
"I want to be a cop, a detective"
3. Thick
"I know you didn't pass all your classes Zach but come on! You can't be that thick to think it's real?" Dan laughs out in exasperation
"Hey! I was right about the affair between Mr Davis and Miss Jenkins remember, she's having his kid this year!" Zack exclaims defending his honour in front of his friends who are all laughing loudly towards him.
"Dude, I'm still creeped out thinking about how they are having a kid together" Servando says letting out a frightened shiver just picturing it
"Tell me about it, let's just hope they don't get his nose, anyone with a nose that big will be set up for bullying till they graduate" Charlie jokes causing the group to burst into another laughing fit.
