The wind rustled through the trees as Faelee and her mother walked through the forest. This was their kingdom and their domain. Faelee was the princess of the Timberlands. As Faelee and her mother walked through the forest all the timberland creatures were a buzz with excitement for the queen Serenity was expecting a baby. As the queen and Faelee passed the home of Squire Bastion
"your highness" says the squire bowing down to the queen and princess. " how are you feeling today?"
" I am feeling quite well today Bastion" replied the queen.
" and how about you princess, how do you like the idea of being a big sister?"
Faelee never really gave any thought into being a big sister. She looked at Bastion and replied " I just hope I will be a good big sister"
"I am sure you will be a great sister" the Squire replied.
"well we need to be on our way" said Serenity. " have a good day Squire Bastion."
"You too your highness and you as well princess"
As they proceeded to walk through the crowded forest Faelee could hear the clanking of the armor of the guards that are following them per her fathers request.
" why do we have to have them follow us?" faelee asked her mother.
" your father just wants to keep an eye on us my dear" Serenity responded. "I have something to show you though but we have to lose the guards"
"Help!"
Serenity and Faelee looked behind them and to see a mother squirrel yelling at a weasel running off with her baby. Immediately the guards attention was turned from the queen and the princess to the mother and the weasel. They took off after the kidnapper.
" lets go" serenity said to Faelee, grabbing her arm and rushing into a thicket.
" mom where are we going?" faelee asked as she dodged branches and briars. She looked back and she couldn't even see the busy streets of the timberlands. Suddenly she felt soft grass under her hooves she turned around and saw a beautiful garden with flowers of every color. And the sun shone through the branches of a beautiful weeping willow tree. Under the branches of the tree ran a tiny stream. This place was definitely hidden. The guards would never find them here. "where are we at mother?" faelee finally found her voice.
" after your father became the king and I soon learned how power hungry he was I knew I needed to find a spot for myself away from all the stress of the palace. Well one day I was walking though the forest and I saw a fairy and she led me to this place. Now I come here almost every day or I try to. Its hard now that your father has those guards following us everywhere. And he is now looking to hire a new guard he found on the streets. He is big and looks scary but he is a really sweet man. Your father is planning to have him follow you."
"what is his name mother?"
"his name is Azlowe"
"he sounds very nice" the princess replied she then got a troubling look on the face.
"what's wrong my love?" Serenity asked. She looked into her daughters hazel eyes filling with tears. The sun shone of her scarlet hair.
"mom what if I'm a terrible sister?" the princess asked her voice trembling.
" oh honey" the queen wrapped Faelee up in a warm hug. "you will be a great sister. You're a smart young fawn. It will come naturally to you."
Faelee looked up at her mother her face was so beautiful. Her brown eyes sparkled. Faelee did not have her moms dark black hair but she had her fathers scarlet hair. "thank you mom" she replied.
"well your father is expecting me for dinner" Serenity said as she gave her daughter a hug. "but you can stay here as long as you need my dear."
"ok mother thank you"
Faelee watched her mother leave the garden. She leaned against the willow tree and listened to the stream babble its way through the garden. She listened to the birds chirping in the trees and bushes in the garden. She felt the cool breeze against her face. As she lay there thoughts were running through her head maybe mother is right maybe I will be good sister maybe it will come naturally. But I am still scared what if something happens to the baby... her thoughts were interrupted by a piercing scream. Faelee ran back towards the streets and saw the commotion. Baskets of fruit and vegetables were everywhere the critters of the Timberlands were running everywhere and screaming. " Its Knaruku!" faelees blood seemed to run cold as she looked up she saw him. Knaruku, his fangs dripping with blood and he was standing on his hind legs swinging his massive paws at the critters of the land.
Mother Faelee knew she had to find her mother. She went off into to woods off of the streets to find her. Where are the guards they should have been with her, they were probably trying to fight off the massive grizzly bear. As faelee ran into a clearing her heart stopped there in the middle of the clearing was her mother laying in a pool of her own blood. Faelee ran over to her mother she knelt down next to her mother and cried. Her mother lay her head to the sky gasping for air. The beast had torn her shoulder almost tearing her neck. Faelee had tears in her eyes " mother, mother please!!" she threw her body over her mother. Serenity gasped clutching her daughter close "I love you dear it was Knaruku tell your father it was Knaruku." The queen said drawing her last breath.
"I will mama I will" replied Faelee with tears streaming down her face. She looked up as the sun made its way through the branches. She saw a winged figure sitting on a branch looking down at her and her mother. She couldn't make out the features of the figure but if she had learned anything from her mother it was that you can trust the winged people more than the ones with fur.
Suddenly through the brush came the guards to see the queen and the princess. One of them ran over to the princess and pulled her away from her mothers lifeless body. " look what I found" yelled one of the guards holding up a falcon feather. Faelee looked up at the figure in the trees as it unfurled its wings and flew away but not before the guard with the feather caught a glimpse of the falcon.
