The bright morning sun broke over the edge of Feawins cave showering his face in its warm light. His eyes fluttered open as his cloudy mind started to drift back to that magical night. The princess was so beautiful, it wasn't just one thing about her that was beautiful it was everything. The way her eyes glistened when she smiled or laughed. And her laugh was just so calming. Her smile stopped his world every time she flashed it.
I know its wrong. I can't be in love with her. She is prey and I am a predator. Her father wouldn't allow it. He already has plans for her to marry the prince of the Oakland Forest. I have seen how the prince treats his people he does not deserve any respect he especially does not deserve Faelee. She needs a man who can protect her with his life. I would kill Knaruku for her. She deserves to be happy I am not rich but I would make sure she is happy all the time. I know my dad did it that's why we had to leave the flock because he fell in love with prey after mom passed away. Maybe I should go back to the clearing maybe she will be back there. Oh who am I kidding she will never fall in love with a guy like me. Look at me im all dirty I don't smell nice im just a mess. She deserves better than me too!
"hello" feawins thoughts got interrupted by a voice could that be her?!
Feawin flew up to the top of the cliff. There she was even more beautiful than she was before.
"hello" he said his voice shaking a bit.
She approached him saying "I never got to properly thank you for the other night"
"Oh that's quite all...." He was cut short when she planted a soft kiss on his cheek. Feawin stood in shock.
"well that is all I wanted to say I hope I will see you around some day." Faelee said walking away.
"wa-wait" feawin said as he flew down to his cave. "take this" he handed her a small piece of bronze attached to a string. "if you ever need me blow into this end." He said pointing to the small end of the piece of metal. "I will come right away"
"thank you" faelee said with a smile as she turned and walked away.
Feawin put his hand up to his cheek she really gave me a kiss! His heart fluttered. Maybe she did like the predator after all.
Faelee found her way back to the hustle and bustle of the busy town as the critters of the Timberlands rushed around gathering fruits and vegetables from their fields and gardens. "oops" she said as she bumped into massive figure. "Azlowe!!!!" she exclaimed once she realized who it was she knew she was in trouble.
"where have you been!? I have searched for you everywhere!"
She could tell he was mad by the tone in his voice. " i-I'm sorry, I haven't been anywhere I've been in my room all day."
"Your Highness, your mother chose me to protect you, now as rebellious as you may be I can tell you are not being honest with me. Since I am your protector you can trust me and confide in me.
"but you will have to report back to my father wont you?"
"no because your mother chose me. Your father did not I would have to report to your mother. Therefore your secrets stay with me."
"really?!"
"yes Your Highness"
A smile crossed over Faelees face. She was starting to like this new guard. She felt safe with him. She could tell her mother had made a great choice. She knew what she was doing. Azlowe might be big and scary looking the beast towered over every creature in the Timberlands he is easily 7 logs tall (7 feet) how are people not afraid of him? How am I not afraid of him? I know he wouldn't hurt me. There is my answer. How is he supposed to protect me when I know he wont hurt me and he doesn't look like he will hurt anyone ever. Maybe he would if he had too. But I know mom knew what she was doing when she hired him.
"Your Highness?" Azlowe's deep gentle voice interrupted her thoughts. "we should get you back to the castle your father will worry about you"
"He doesn't care about me" Faelee replied. She knew her father only cared about making peace with the Oakland forest. She did not want to marry the prince but she knew there was no changing her father's mind.
"is everything ok Your Highness?" Azlowe had a concerned look on his face.
"I don't want to marry Prince Oakley." Faelee said with tears in her eyes. Before she knew it Azlowe was wrapping her in a hug.
"I know I wish I could stop it. Oakley is not a good man"
Faelee knew he was breaking the rules doing this but she knew he was trying to make her feel better. "thank you" she said.
They both turned and started to make their way back to the castle. As the day turned to Feawin sat in his favorite tree that overlooked the cliff that he lived on. The tall strong pine tree was easy to hide in but also had a great view of the valley below the cliff. He had gone out and found some berries and some wild tomatoes, that he was munching on while he reflected on the day. His cheek still burned from the kiss Faelee had planted on it that morning. She is just so amazing and so beautiful.... His thoughts were interrupted by voices approaching the cliffs edge. Feawin looked down to see Knarukus brother Kado and two of Knarukus misfits walking into the clearing just below the pine tree. As Kado walked into the clearing faewin could see why he was feared. He takes after his older brother a lot his eyes alone with there fiery orange color and rivers of crimson flowing through them would strike fear into any man let alone a woman or child. Kado leaned up against the big pine tree. Feawin barely breathed he did not want to get spotted he actually just wanted to go to his cave.
"hey Kado did ya see how the boss attacked the queen? She never stood a chance." howled Walen.
"just wait till we get a hold of that little fawn of hers, I'm sure the boss would love the taste of her." Giddion said with saliva dripping from his jowls.
Kado shot a devious glare towards the two wolves laughing at their comments, " my brother has had his fun now its our turn. You leave the little fawn to me, you two take care of the kingdom dwellers. And get rid of that bumbling fool they have following her. I don't want to waste my energy on a pathetic bull."
" yes sir" Walen and Giddion said as they turned with Kado and walked back into the forest towards the mountain where Knaruku lives.
Feawin sat in terror. They can't. they won't. No one is going to hurt her I wont let them. "I must check on her!" Feawin took off towards the castle as fast as he could.
