The mere sight of Michael was enough to send shivers down her spine. He came back home bearing a shocking news for her. His bemused smile and relaxed demeanor told her that he was in a good mood but that didn’t mean she was safe. For him, Ashley had reduced into a plaything. He raped and beat her whenever he would feel like. Much to her relief, nothing catastrophic befell on her that night as Michael was too happy to pay her any heed. 

The next morning, on the breakfast table, he finally broke the news to her. Ashley was in the kitchen washing dishes when her husband called for him. She ran out to him in an instant as she knew how much he hated waiting. 

“Tonight Mr. Smith is going to have dinner with us in my house. So, you better put your best in preparing the dinner. A mistake and I will break all your fingers” he growled at her while munching on his breakfast. She nodded as fear crept up. Why was he coming to their house? A wave of fear smashed her. Of all the people Michael had to invite Daniel Smith. She was positive Michael had invited him to get in his good books. That was understandable but the fact she couldn’t wrap her mind around was why in the world he accepted the invitation. Why would a man of his stature be inclined to eat with them? She shuddered at the thought of him. “After all this is the only thing you are capable of,” his mockery pulled her out of his trance. “He will be here at 7:00 in the evening,” Michael affirmed and rose from the seat to leave.

Even though today was Sunday, Michael didn’t stay at home with Ashley. She didn’t even remember when was the last time they had spent a day together. He would often go out and party with his friends on off days whereas Ash was doomed to spend her days sulking in the home. His home. 

Pushing all her worries, confusion, and uncertainty to the back of her mind, she started planning for the dinner. Evidently, Daniel was an important man and as Michael had asked him over for dinner which he rarely does, she deduced that Michael was keeping his nose to grindstone to please him. Michael had never invited even his own boss for the dinner. 

She had no idea what Daniel's favorite food was. He had hardly seen him eating anything at the party. Ashley was taking Michael’s warning very seriously as she knew, he never makes empty threats, especially when it comes to her. He likes tormenting her.

A bright smile spread across her face when an idea came to her mind following a whole hour of beating her brain out. She picked her phone from the table and started looking up “Daniel Smith Interviews” on Youtube. A sigh of relief escaped her when she noticed that he had given a very few interviews. Now, she wouldn’t have to jump from interviews to interviews to find out more about him. Clearly, he was a man who liked to keep to himself. The scarcity of information about him added to his mysterious personality. 

Most of the interviews were professional and serious. She knew she was not going to find anything fruitful in them. So, she skipped over directly to a less professional one in which he was wearing a denim shirt and dark blue jeans. He was looking breath-taking. The anchor was asking him questions about why he thought of sinking his teeth into hotel business. His new venture. Ash was totally mesmerized by the smile he gave to the anchor before articulating his answer. He begins by saying that this is a gift for his mother. The smile widened and his eyes twinkled when he talked about his Mom. Even a child could tell his immense love for his mother. A gentle smile tugged on Ashley’s lips. It is in this interview she learned that his favorite food is sesame chicken, especially, made by his mother. He also divulged that he has a real sweet tooth and can’t resist chocolate pie. 

That was all Ashley needed to know. The video was four years old and she hoped that his favorites were still the same. She checked if she had all the ingredients to make the dishes. Luckily, she had.
