TORTUROUS IS THE only word you can think of to describe the situation at hand.

"And you're sure you didn't see who wrote it?"

"For the hundredth time," you answer, pinching the bridge of your nose and releasing a disgruntled sigh, "No."

You lean back in your seat at the table you had been sat at with Reid when you had seen the photos in the file, and luckily enough for you, the file was closed by the time you got back.

The detective that has a strong hatred towards you is the one continuously asking you questions, pacing around the room and letting the curses flow out of his mouth. He had been the one who had first found you with your mouth wide open staring at the bathroom door and had brought you back to the room you had been given to set up in. He had been questioning you ever since, his trust in you was clearly non-existent.

"If you hadn't of come here then-"

The detective is cut off when the door flings open, Hotch strutting in with a stern expression. As if his entrance wasn't enough to stun the detective, opening his mouth was, "That's enough, Detective Corales."

Corales backs off and scoffs, hands on his hips as he leans back against the table. Hotch shoots a glance in your direction and there's sympathy in his expression, and you look away as soon as you meet his eyes.

You feel ashamed, as much as you hate Corales and want him to be wrong, he's right. If you hadn't of come here, then your sociopathic father wouldn't be terrorising any of you.

But you were already here and the small amount of damage was already done - but whether it was truly your father who had written the message wasn't clear.

From behind Hotch, Reid emerges and his attention is set on you and not Corales. He slowly walks to where you're sat and places himself in the seat next to you, cautiously watching as you sway back and forth in the spinny chair.

"Y/n," he starts quietly, making sure the other two men in the room who are slightly bickering can't hear, "Are you alright?"

"I'm fine." You answer bluntly, fiddling with your fingers and avoiding his gaze.

He sighs and takes the file that had been placed on the table in front of you and slides it so it is in front of him. He opens it and quickly scans the first page, taking in the different witness accounts and interview statements that had been compiled all in one.

As he turns the page, you see him stop and then close the file completely. He slides it further away from the both of you and turns his chair to face you.

"It was the photos, wasn't it?" He asks softly, leaning forward and closer to your face.

Scared that your voice will crack if you try and use it, you nod and finally meet his eyes, "Well, if it wasn't the photos then it would have been the fact that my murderous father was in the same building as my real family."

He sighs once more as he moves a piece of your hair out of your face, "We don't know that it was him. Is there anyone you know that would want to mess with you like this?"

"I'm sure there are a lot of people who would love to get a reaction out of me," You say with a short glance at Corales who seems to still be arguing with Hotch, "But no one in particular. I didn't see anybody, I didn't hear anybody. Nothing."

You sigh in your own uselessness and shake your head, turning away from Reid in your chair and facing the pair of men at the other side of the small room.

"She can't work this case, Hotchner!" Corales exclaims.

As if the words triggered him, Hotch is quick to respond, "The hell she can't. She's one of my best, and if you think she's incompetent because of her father's mistakes, perhaps I should have a long conversation with your boss, Detective."
