YOU STAND LEANING against a parked police car, your chin resting against your knuckles.

You look through the few loose strands of hair that frame your face, the rest of it tied back in an attempt to keep it out of the way.

You begin to hear a few loud conversations and perk your head as Hotch reaches your side, placing down a laptop on the car roof. There is a live feed streaming from inside the house -you recognise the background- and Cora is tied to a chair on the screen, duck tape over her mouth and her hands behind her back.

It is obvious she has been crying, her red and puffy eyes make that clear. She knows there's a chance she may not see her daughter ever again, but you would rather endure more torture than have that happen.

Hotch watches you carefully but you don't remove your eyes from the screen, watching how your father enters the frame with a gun in his hand. You swallow your fear as he begins to talk, a sound that causes you to clench your teeth.

"Y/n.." he taunts, stretching out the vowels of your name, "I know you're watching, and there's one way Cora can go free."

You sigh and look down, already knowing what he's going to say. The rest of the team have crowded around the screen now, all itching to see what's going on.

"If you hand yourself over, Cora will go free. An eye for an eye."

You let out a disgruntled noise and push yourself from the car, taking a few steps in a circle as you run a hand through your hair.

You press your tongue against the inside of your cheek as you turn back to the screen, watching as your father leaves the frame, leaving Cora sat there trying to scream.

"So what do we do?" JJ asks cluelessly, "I mean we obviously aren't handing Y/n over, he must know that."

"We won't. Even if we wanted to, it's against protocol." Emily adds.

Derek shrugs, "So what do we do?"

"Maybe we should-" Spencer begins as he turns to where you were standing, but stops when he finds you are no longer there, "Where is Y/n?"

The team look around urgently and spy you slowly making your way up the stairs to the front door of the house, pulling your vest off and dropping it at your feet as you do.

Spencer goes to run and stop you but is stopped by Derek who thinks he can at least save him.

Your hand reaches for the door handle, and you hesitate before finally pushing it open. The familiar scent of your childhood home wafts into your nose, and the layout of the hallway is the exact same as you remember it - nothing has changed.

Slowly, you take a few steps into the house and try to calm your breathing. In the video, the background had been the living room, so that is where you check first. As suspected, Cora is there, thrashing around in the chair. Once she notices your presence, she squeals behind the tape and stops her movements. She gestures her head in the direction of the door that leads to the kitchen and you give her a small nod as you place a finger on your lips.

Cora stops her useless squeals and leans her head back in relief - but you know your presence doesn't guarantee you both make it out alive.

You hear footsteps fast approaching from the other side of the kitchen door, and as it rips open, you freeze in your spot.

Your father does the same - this is the first time you have seen each other since he tortured you, and he has a look of shock like he wasn't expecting you to follow his orders.
