Featherheart opened her eyes. She sat up and stretched. The sun's weak rays started to shine onto the clearing. Just a dream. . . Featherheart thought, relieved. Featherheart padded out of the warrior's den to see the sky starting to be covered with clouds.

Warriors were just starting to wake up. Featherheart decided to go see her mother before she heads off on her patrol. Featherheart trotted over to the elder's den and saw Breezefrost licking her fur. Her fur looked frozen and hard. Grayfur was busy sleeping noisily.

The elder's den was a tree trunk that covered the top of the den. There was moss bedding laid in it.

"Will ya shut up, Grayfur?!" A voice from deeper inside the den yowled. Grayfur darted awake. "I'm up so ya don't need to yell at me anymore!" Grayfur hissed in a creaky, old voice. Grayfur sat up and stretched his bones. The crackling of his bones was hearable.

The cat who yowled at him stepped out of the den. The cat was big, brown, and gray. That elder was Hawkflight. Grayfur sighed and started grooming himself. Hawkflight was the youngest elder, he was still strong, but he was old and getting weaker each day. Hawkflight snorted and padded back deeper into the den.

There were two cats still asleep. Almondfur, a pale She-cat with formerly sleek fur, and Lostsight, a very old blind tom. Almondfur was Featherheart's mother. Featherheart didn't know who her father was though. Featherheart saw Almondfur resting in her mossy bedding. Featherheart nudged her to wake up. Almondfur opened her eyes and saw Featherheart. Almondfur sat up straight and greeted Featherheart.

"Hello sweetheart, how are you?" Almondfur mewed. Her voice was old, but still sounded a bit like a warrior's voice. "I'm doing well." Featherheart meowed. "I just came over here to ask you about life. How's it going?" Feather sat up straight waiting for Almondfur's response.

"Well, Grayfur and Hawkflight keep arguing, Breezefrost is getting annoyed at them, and I am just not minding it at all." Almondfur meowed. "Anyway, don't you have a patrol to get to?" Almondfur placed her paw over her other paw and flicked her tail. Featherheart nodded.

"Well then, you'd better go, your patrol is awaiting you at the entrance." Almondfur mewed and stared at the entrance. Featherheart twisted her head to look at the entrance, and her patrol was sitting there waiting for her. "Well then, goodbye mother!" Featherheart meowed as she bounded towards the entrance.

Copperburn, Rosepelt, and Sharpleaf were waiting for her at the entrance. "Took you long enough." Copperburn joked. Featherheart stifled a giggle. "Well, time to go." Featherheart meowed as she climbed up the gorse tunnel. Sharpleaf nodded and the rest of the patrol followed Sharpleaf.
