Released on January 29, 2021. BGYO's debut single "The light" speaks about empowerment, hope and self-love.
BGYO aims to create music that not only captivates the senses but sparks meaningful messaging that is relevant to youth today.
According to BGYO members themselves really thinks that the song is really meant for them, it fits them very well. From the musicality, the lyrics and the choreo really does speaks for them.
The songs is very timely and relevant specially that all of us, all over the world is facing hardships in life amidst the pandemic and listening to this kind of music can somewhat uplifts us and inspire us to not give up in life inspite of all the struggles that we undergo.
"The Light" is a song about searching the light amidst the darkness only to find out that the light has always been within you. The light symbolizes the hope, faith that we can overcome all the struggles in our life and that light has always been hidden inside of us. That the only thing that can save us is our ownself.
The BGYO members help in writing the lyrics of the song "The light" together with Distract. The song was composed and arranged by Rogan and Ddank.
In their interview on australianfilipina magazine, the BGYO members share their thoughts about the song and its relevance to them.
AKIRA: I remember the time when I'm finding something else to do besides acting. A staff from ABS-CBN contacted me and told of this audition. At first, I wasn't sure because I don't know how to dance but I took the opportunity and I got in then I saw the light that I was looking for.
GELO: When I overthink, feel down or when other people doubt in what I can do, this song helps me to bring out the best in me. It tells me that I coulld achieve excellence every day and be a good change to the world by just using the light within me.
JL: The light speaks about empowerment, hope and self-love. It is relevant to me especially when I think that I almost quit on this path. I believed in myself and I didn't give up.
MIKKI: There are a lot of meaning for The Light but for me, The Light means not giving up on your dreams. I can relate it to myself because there were a lot of times that I was having a hard time but I chose not to give up and continue fighting.
NATE: When I listen to our song The Light, I always feel motivation and a fire in my heart coming out. The lyrics are so perfect for us. I would listen to this when I'm down, weak or when I'm going to face my fears.
The choreography of "The light" was also shown in the music video and the boys were highly praise for that. They show an exceptional dance performance that really showcase BGYO's talent in dancing. The dance was choreographed by LAY BACK (Lee Kwang Taek, Lee Ji Woong, Jeong Woo Ryun and Yun Jong In).
Now let's talk about the music video of "The light". It was directed by Ms. Kring Kim. The music video was made incredibly fine! I really love how it was able to show some cinematic scenes, the choreography, the fashionable wardrobe of the boys and of course, not to mention the member's visuals. Some solo shots and even group shots were perfectly executed in the music video itself through perfectly timing transition by the editor of the video.
Inspite of the minimal resources since PH is undergoing its quarantine and the people should follow a certain protocol, they were still able to maximize it and make a world class kind of music video. From that galactic inspired background, group shot on a parking lot, and so on was indeed aesthetically pleasing!
Not to mention how to BGYO members were able to portray some of the struggles people are facing nowadays that we should put attention to and taught us how to respect and not easily judge the people around us since each one of us were fighting our own monsters everyday.
Akira was able to show us a glimpse and somehow make us feel how a person with mental illness undergoes. Nate who is seen with some scars on his face took a part of someone who is probably getting bullied/someone who experience violence. Gelo who setting was mainly in the bathroom lying down on the bathtub or mostly looking at the mirror shows someone who is undergoing an identity crisis. Mikki who is sitting infront of his study table portrays a student who is undergoing academic pressure. Lastly, JL who is mostly lying down his bed while looking at his phone might show us either someone who is experiencing cyberbullying or social media addiction.
"The light" is the song that the world needs today, that everybody needs to listen to everyday. Like it serves a reminder for everyone to not give up in life! And it was what the BGYO members wants us to know. Just like what JL said in his line "Kumapit ka lamang at wag na wag kang bibitaw. Sa hamon ng buhay, paniniwala mo isigaw". So just always "follow the bright bright light!"
Btw, for international fans i've heard from Akira in an interview that soon they will probably be releasing the song "The light" in other language so please stay tuned and continue supporting our boys and lets all together "be the light" and lets all "follow the bright, bright light!"
