Chapter 3 Peter:
I stared at my classmates awkwardly for about a minute. Cindy was the first to break the silence.
"....So.... Peter. What are you doing here?"
Luckily I had formulated a lie. "I told you I'm an intern here, right? Every intern gets a chance to meet with the Avengers at least once, and today was my day. But what are you doing here?"
Everyone started whispering about how cool this was, and Ned was the one who answered me.
"Flash invited most of the class on a tour here. You never really paid attention, but here we are."
Oh. Yeah, now I remembered. This was awkward.
I shuffled my feet a bit and edged closer to the door. "I'll just be going back to my lab now, see you later."
"Hey wait!"
I stopped and turned around. One of the girls I didn't really know looked disappointed.
"I wanted to hear your reasons."
I let out a small laugh, until another girl thought of something.
"Hey, did you say you were talking to Shuri? Like princess Shuri?"
I stilled and thought of another lie. "Uhhhhh no... I was talking about Shareen, one of the other interns here."
"Oh, ok. That's kind of boring."
Good. With that, I waved and bolted to my lab. That could have gone a lot worse, but it could have gone better.
How could I have forgotten about this?
I sat down and stared at my blank computer screen until Mr. Stark found me.
"Hey kid, how're you doing?"
I sighed. "I'm a bit mad at myself that I forgot about that trip, and I just hope my lie was believable."
He patted my head and grinned. "Don't worry, it was a pretty smart lie. If I didn't know any better I would believe it myself!"
I laughed. "Sure dad. Sure."
"Well I should have remembered people you knew were coming here. So I get partial blame."
We continued to talk for a while, but then I had to get back to work. I managed to get in five minutes before I was interrupted by Bucky.
"What is it?"
Bucky and I had become pretty good friends, but he was still kind of awkward with socializing.
"Sorry about what happened up there. It must have been a shock to see your friends. I hope your identity isn't in trouble."
I smiled and gave him a thumbs up. "It's all good dude. I think they bought my lie."
"Still, I want to give you something good. So.... Steve and I are totally dating."
I jumped up and yelled. "I KNEW IT! WOOOO!"
Once I settled down I frowned. "But why would you tell me this?"
"No one's going to believe you over Steve and I, especially since I'll deny ever having this conversation."
I narrowed my eyes. "You are truly evil. My feeling for you went from love to hate pretty quickly."
He just finger gunned and walked away. While I was still mad at him, I had to admit the finger guns were the coolest things ever. One of my proudest achievements was getting his metal arm to do it correctly.
I'm such a genius.
But I still had work to do. So I put my earphones in and turned up the music loud enough to block everything else out. Time to get sciency.
Despite my intentions, I didn't end up doing as much work as planned, instead I ended up singing and dancing around the lab. Sure I did work as I went, but it wasn't that productive.
I was vibung to the Hamilton soundtrack when I heard something in the background. But the whole reason I put my volume so high was to block everything out, so I ignored it.
But the sound didn't stop, and I eventually realized it was my name. I took my earphones out to be met with, "PARKER!"
I whirled around to see my classmates for the second time. In my lab. My lab.
I brought my hand to my face and sighed. I just couldn't catch a break could I?
"I thought the purpose of personal labs was that they're private. We're letting tour groups into the private labs now? What about the main areas?"
The tour guide looked apologetic. I vaguely recognized her, I think her name was Lisa.
"Sorry sir! It says here that this group should be granted access to the private labs, and I thought this one would be best because of, you know. But I didn't realize you'd be here, so we can come back."
I shook my head. "You're already here and I wasn't getting that much work done. So what the hell." I glanced at her badge and saw that I was correct. "So Lisa, do you want me to explain some of my designs or whatever?"
Her face lit up while Flash's grew more confused and angrier.
"You'd really do that! Thanks!" She turned back to the group. "I'll just start by explaining why I chose this specific lab. You see over there," she pointed to the staircase in the corner of the room. "That leads to Tony Stark's very own lab! We don't have access to that, but it's still pretty cool right!?"
Everyone nodded mutely. Flash was obviously the one who had to ask questions.
"Why does Parker get a personal lab at all, especially one connected to freaking IronMan?"
I just wanted a peaceful day, and this is what I got. Luckily Lisa seemed to be pretty cool.
"I thought that was obvious. Only high clearance and top interns have access to these floors without the tour. I don't know mr. Parker personally, but he did help out with one of my more difficult projects once." She shrugged. "What I'm trying to say here, is that Peter Parker is smart, and apparently one of the few interns picked by Tony Stark himself."
Everyone gaped at me, while Flash's face paled considerably. Ned gave me a smile and shrug, and MJ just pulled out her crisis notebook.
I awkwardly scratched my neck.
"Surprise?"
