Chapter 6:
We finished food much too quickly. That was the only noticeable thing that happened for the rest of the tour. It was pretty boring considering I knew almost everything being said. But it was fun to be doing this with my friends.
Until the big announcement.
"So, you guys are going to get the experience of a lifetime! Not only will you have a Q&A with the Avengers, you get to watch a movie with them too!"
Everyone cheered while I wanted to sink into the floor. Damnit. I should have stayed in my lab.
Lisa continued with her speech after the class quieted down. "This isn't part of the usual tour no matter how high class, so I can't explain why. But it's an amazing opportunity so prepare yourselves!"
Ned was frickin vibrating with excitement. "This is so cool!"
"For you maybe." I whispered back. "I shouldn't have stuck with you."
"Aw come on, it'll be fun."
"Fine."
We followed her to the elevator, where she stopped. "Wait... I don't have clearance for the level we're supposed to meet on. How are we supposed to get up there?"
Her answer came from FRIDAY.
"Boss did not think this through, but you can use Peter."
Oh right, heh.
She turned to me. "I knew you were an intern, but to have this high of clearance... damn. Props to you kid."
I laughed awkwardly.
"But I haven't even noticed a badge so how should you..."
"Oh, ummm I don't actually have a badge."
"But all interns must wear one!"
The class was watching us like a tennis match.
"Uh well I don't know, I'm just... special?" I really wanted this conversation to be over. "What level are we going to?"
"We get to go far up. Level 91 out of 100."
Ooh. Level 90 was where all the labs stopped and the Avengers/living space began.
"Ok FRIDAY, please take us to level 91."
"Of course Peter."
Thank god for my coding skills. My name wasn't only Peter in the system. Dad and the rest of the Avengers had a nickname they changed a bunch to embarrass me. But I changed it so FRIDAY would only use it when one of them was in earshot. Otherwise she stuck to Peter.
By this time we already reached the floor, and all filed out the elevator, and into a large sitting room.
Where the Avengers were waiting.
They all gave introductions, causing everyone to scream and clap. I flinched a bit. The noise was a bit much. Luckily I had brought my earphones to block out sound.
I didn't really care what questions people had, so I slipped them on and chilled in the back.
Eventually Ned poked my arm and brought me back to reality. The questions were over. He gave me a quick run through of what was asked, which was exactly what I expected. Questions about being heroes in general, personal questions, and a few questions about Stark Industries as well.
Just a normal Q&A.
But now it was movie time. The TV activated and began to play. But it wasn't a movie.
"Ok, I'm in the car with Happy. Why do they call you Happy anyway?"
I quickly used my webs to pull the cord out. Why the fuck was that on the TV?
Everyone was confused, and by everyone I meant the Avengers as well. This wasn't planned.
Mr. Stark stood up. "Um can everyone please leave the room for a minute? Except for Peter."
They all filed out, still whispering about what was going on. When we were alone I turned to them.
"Why was that playing? It's fine if you want to embarrass me, but not with a bunch of my classmates watching! That thing exposes my identity so many times!"
Steve spoke first. "I don't understand why that was there. I know I put the actual movie in."
Everyone started arguing, and it was starting to get to my head again. Mr. Stark noticed and gestured for them to shut up. "FRIDAY please show us the security footage of the room, starting from when the kids entered. And play it at x2 speed."
A hologram of the footage appeared in front of us, and we started watching the TV. After a bit we spotted movement and went back.
While they were answering questions someone snuck over to the TV and replaced the disk with one he grabbed from the shelf.
I didn't need to be a genius to guess who it was.
We zoomed in to see that I was correct. Of course Flash would be this stupid.
He was going to die.
"Dad-"
He was furious. He walked over and yelled for Flash to come in.
He did, looking extremely pale.
"Uh yes what is it sir?"
"You know damn well 'what is it'. Why did you switch the disks?"
He looked at the ground and shifted his feet. "I didn't think it would be a big deal! Just some fun."
Steve frowned. "If this isn't enough for you I don't know what is. But we had clear rules that you've violated. We should kick you out right now."
Dad came back.
"But Peter has friends here, and we want to make it enjoyable for them. So you!re going to sit tight and keep your hands to yourself for the rest of the trip, got it?"
He nodded quickly. "Yes sir! Or course sir!"
"Good."
Bucky switched the disks back we called everyone back in.
We all settled down and the movie began to play. I think I might actually enjoy this.
