in which mike and el have very different memories of their first kiss
bit of an au
"mike, come in here!" el yelled from their storage closet.
mike walked over to see his girlfriend on the floor with a bunch of pictures layed out in front on her.
as his eyes scanned over the polaroid pictures, he reminisced on the memories they captured. the snowball dance, them cuddling in the fort, their first date at benny's...
then, el pulls him down by the arm so that he's sitting next to her.
"look at this one, babe! it's our-"
"first kiss." mike interrupts with a dopey grin.
he remembers it almost as if it was yesterday. they were 13, and mike had been nervous on even thinking about it. el knew what kissing was, she would see it all the time in her soap operas. el had thought about it, like why mike hadn't kissed her yet. did he not want to? but she never asked him because she didn't want to make him uncomfortable.
one day mike had begged hopper to let el out of the cabin for one day to just chill at his house with the rest of the party. eventually after a lot of bargaining, hopper caved in. once hopper agreed, el was already ready, wearing a flannel and jeans. the two kids hopped onto mike's bike and enjoyed the silence of the ride. with one hand around his torso, her other hand would trace patterns on his back while she also placed light kisses all over the back of his neck. this had been farthest they'd ever gone. of course, the first time, mike was shocked but eventually got used to it, his girlfriend wants to kiss him and he's not denying her of that at all.
when they arrived at mike's house, the party was waiting for them at the door. after greeting all of them and hugs, a lot of hugs, the kids all migrated to the basement, their usual hangout spot. after watching some movies, playing some games and just casual talk to catch up, most of them were pretty tired. but not mike, he was too nervous to even feel sleepy. you see, mike had been planning on finally kissing el today, but every time he'd try to ask her, he would always chicken out.
it was around 10 pm, and the friend group were spread out on the sofas while a movie played, but no one was really watching. lucas and max were sitting next to each other on the sofa while lucas was showing max his new camera. dustin was in a starfish position on the floor while he ate the remaining snacks. will was already sleeping on one of the couches, while mike and el were cuddling on the couch.
out of nowhere, there was some sort of tension between them. they had made eye contact and don't look like breaking it any time soon. just the two of them, staring into each other's eyes. suddenly, mike dove in and kissed her, finally. they then heard a camera go off and turned to the source, and all they saw were the grinning faces of max and lucas. and that was the story of their first kiss-
"um that is so not what happened." el laughed.
"what do you mean that's not what happened? it so is." mike rebuttaled.
el shook her head, "mike, i was the one that kissed you first."
"uhh no, i was the one who kissed you." mike laughed.
"no because you're literally wrong. we were sitting on the couch, and we were staring at each other and then i kissed you." she explained.
"um no, i had been planning on kissing you all night, so obviously i made the first move."
"okay, are we actually going to fight about who did what when our first kiss was years ago?" el sighed.
"no, i don't want to fight... even though i'm right." he whispered the last part.
too tired to even argue, el playfully rolled her eyes and grinned.
"why are we fighting about who started our first kiss when i could just kiss you right now?" she leaned closer to him with a lovesick smile.
"not if i start it first..." he mirrored her smile.
their lips met and their thoughts about what happened during their first kiss melted away.
