Trouble

"What happened back there? Why were they all shifting?" I cry as I sit in Alcides car and he slams his wheel in frustration 

"Couldn't help it. When that energy starts rolling, it takes you over. We're lucky we got out of there alive. Fuck! Ugh!" he screams 

"l know it was terrible.  If you don't slow down, you're gonna kill us. And l am not gonna die because of your shitty girlfriend and a Mississippi pothole!" I screech and he comes to a stop "I had to be mean to make you listen. l'm sorry" I whisper shaking my head slightly but he stills in his seat. 

"She wasn't always shitty. We were great together. When she wasn't drinking or cheating. She used to play horseshoes with my dad... .help my mom plant tomatoes." he replies 

"But tonight she was half-naked in a wolf skin, getting branded. Tell me more about Russell Edgington. l gotta talk to him. The brand, the blood, the vampire. He knows where Bill is, or he knows who knows." I say and Alcide growls 

"I promised Eric I'd keep you out of trouble. You ain't going near him, Meghan." he says. When I finally arrive to Alcide's house I pass out in the bed but the sound of screaming has me waking up 

"Liar. You drug addict. You sold your soul to a vamp. l saw you. If he knew what you saw  I'm warning you... if anybody finds out what went on at Lou Pine's--" Alcide says as I walk out in the room and I go still when I saw Debbie standing there. 

"That's your neighbor? Oh, hell, no.  She got nothing to do with this." she growls and I watch as her eyes darken as she moves towards me but Alcide grabs her 

"No, I'm not sleeping with him. But you traded this good person who loves you...for a shot of V, that burn on your back... and a dumb biker who's half the man and half the wolf that Alcide is Where is Bill Compton?" I cry 

"I don't know who you're talking about" she hisses 

Truth 

And I turn and leave. When Alcide finally manages to get Debbie out I sit in the corner of my room 

"Gonna run errands. Won't take long." Alcide says smiling as he enters my room 

Lies, he's going to the packmaster 

"What's a packmaster?" I ask 

"Goddamn it. This is Were business. It's against our laws to tell you anything." he cries 

"I've been listening to dark, private thoughts since l was a little girl. Keeping secrets is how l survive, Alcide.  Then l'll have to dig it out of your head, and l really don't like to do that." I say smirkiing and he sighs 

"Pack isn't a democracy. Most Weres don't have much sense. You saw. They're all teeth and fight and sex. Packmaster's our alpha. He makes the big decisions, keeps the rest of us in line.  He'll tell us what to do. l am not breaking more rules for you." he says and I smile getting up 

"Work with me Alcide it's so much fucking easier" I say patting him on the back as I walk pass and I hear him growl behind me. When we arrive to the packmaster he's just some old white guy that doesn't look very special 

"If these were ordinary Were junkies scoring on the street, I wouldn't be here... but they're organized and drinking from the source. Meghan can back me up." Alcide states but the packmaster gets up 

"You'll be disciplined for exposing us to a human, Alcide." he says 

"lt's not his fault. We only wanted to tell you what we saw. You have a plan?" I ask 

"Whatever it is, l support you, sir, 100 percent." Alcide says 

"Do nothing, tell no one. Russell Edgington-- -There's nothing l can do about him. He's the goddamn vampire king of Mississippi. Edgington is ancient. He's had a pack of Weres serving him for centuries all over the world. Now he's on our doorstep. We gonna be smart. Let him do what he wants to do until he goes away." he says 

he's afraid 

"Colonel Flood, we gotta do something." Alcide states 

"Let him go. He can't help. He's afraid" I whisper as the packmaster gets into the car 

"Shut up. Alcide, obey." the packmaster says before driving off and I turn to Alcide

"It wasn't bullshit." I whisper and he moves closer to me and pulling me in by my shoulder 

"I know. I trust you." he whispers and I smile up at him for the first time in a long time someone had backed me 100%. When we had finally driven home it was night and I had fallen asleep 

"Meghan!" I hear Alcide cry and I get up and sprint from my bed when I look at him he turns and reveals Bill standing in front of him 

"Bill." I cry before running into his arms but he puts me down in a panic 

"Megs ...you have to go now. There's no time. You must take her" he screams to Alcide 

"Wherever I'm going, you're coming too." I cry trying to grab him but he's pacing to fast 

"It's too late. There's no hope for me." he says 

"Please, you've gotta get her out of Jackson as fast as you can." he says to Alcide who grabs my arm trying to get my attention 

"You have to leave now." Bill cries 

"l will, but tell me what l'm running from." I scream but then something bursts down the door and I see the vampire Kind standing there and I watch as Alcide and Bill try to fight them but Alcide gets knocked cold 

"That's for Debbie, fucker." the wolf growls 

"Grab the girl, you imbecile." the King cries and I get ready to scream but before I can do anything they shove something in my mouth but as I struggle I'm able to spit it out 

"No!" I scream and the wolfs thrown across the room I watch as the King breaks into laughter 

"Fantastic!" he cries with a smile on his face and I turn to glare at him.
