Chapter 5
Mia
I woke up to the early morning sun shining on my face. I smiled as i stretched out all my limbs.  I passed out as soon as i got in to my bed last night. I had never slept better.
‘Good morning’ Dusk greeted me.  I startled a little, it would take some getting used to. 
‘Morning Dusk' i greeted back.
Yesterday was such a long day and today is just going to be as long.
It was 5:30am, today at 8am i would meet someone who gained their wolf at 16 too.
I had so many questions i wanted to ask.  How did i gain my wolf so early? What would happen when i turn 18? Why couldnt i mind link with other pack members? Will i find my mate early? I wasnt sure on this one i was only 16, though i wanted a mate, i didnt want to find him this early. I’m still to young for that.
‘how about a run Dusk?’ i asked.
‘Im good we have training later today i can come out to play then' i laughed at her.
I jumped in the shower and put on some of my running clothes. Gym leggings, sports bra and a purple tank top.   Brushing my hair in to a pony tail i made my way down stairs.
“Good morning sweetheart” my dad said greeting me.
He was already as at the kitchen island eating breakfast.
“Morning, where’s mam?” i asked making to way to the fridge to pull the milk out for cereal.
“She is just getting dressed. Will be out in a moment”
I nodded. Mam came out just after i finished my breakfast and started washing my bowl.
“Morning" we said at the same time and laughed.
“How are you feeling today?” my mom asked.
“Dusk startled me a little bit this morning when i woke up and she spoke to me... it took my a second to remember.. part of me is feels like its been forever, but my logical side reminds me its been a day.. just one long crazy day. Today is going to be another”
“It will take a little while to get used to, you weren’t expecting your wolf this early.  Your right it was one long day yesterday.” My mom responded.
“I have today off guard duty, so i can be there when your talking to this lady coming and to help with training this afternoon.” 
“do i really have to train dad? I dont like hurting people"
“I know, but you really should know how to fight, just incase. Its not about hurting people, its more about knowing how to protect yourself and others, from those who wish to harm... I cant believe im going to finally get to see you sparring today, all those times i tried to teach you but you just like to sit and watch"
We sat talking and laughing for a little while. Before we had to leave.
“Ive put a bag of spare clothes in the trunk for you for later.”
“Thanks mom"
We made our way to the pack house to meet this women that was coming to visit me.
When we got to the pack house, to find the Alpha and Luna waiting at the door. My father parked to the side and we got out to greet them.
Alpha, Luna.. we greeted with a little bow.
The Luna pulled me in to a hug. I was a little thrown off by this. I had never gotten a hug off the Luna before. In fact not many did.  I hugged her back after a second of hesitation.
“I’m sorry, i just never got to hug you after everything yesterday. I just wanted to make sure you where ok" she said.
“There is nothing to apologise for Luna, you have given a gift thank you.” I replied.
“Callie should be here in a moment I got word from the guards she had arrived at the gates” the Alpha said to us.
We stood in silence for a minute before Xzavier and Jackson stepped out of the house and joined us in waiting for Callie i think the Alpha had called her, to arrive.
“Good morning Alpha,Beta” me and my parents greeted them.
“Good morning” they said in unison.
Xzavier stood next to me and leaned in whispering in my ear “Nervous?”  i tried hard to hid the shiver i got with him being so close to me.
“You have no idea" i responded and he chuckled.
It was then a black Suv came in to view. I started fidgeting with my hands. I was nervous, i didnt know what was going to be said.
When the car pulled up to the steps out jumped a tall women with long brown hair, hazel brown eyes and she was absolutely beautiful. A man joined her side with red hair, he was very muscular and tall.
Callie’s eyes locked on mine and she smiled at me.  I shyly smiled back.
“Alpha,Luna” they both greeted.
The Alpha lead us back into the pack house offering the guest refreshments. I looked at my dad as we followed behind.  But it was Xzavier who squeezed my shoulder in support. “it will be fine” he whispered to me again. 
I gave him a small smile.  The show of support from him calmed my nerves a bit.
I saw a small frown on my dads face as he looked to where Xzavier’s hand still rested on my shoulder.  He must have noticed he left  his hand there to long  as he removed it instantly. Clearing his throat.
We reached the Alphas office more chairs had been brought in since yesterday. 
The Alpha introduced everyone before we took our seats. 
The Alpha and Luna was sat behind the desk, Xzavier and Jackson sat at the side of the desk by the wall.  My parents sat next to me across from Callie and John her mate.
There was a little bit of an awkward silence as me and Callie just stared at each other.  I felt a connection with her that i couldn’t quite explain.
‘Kindred Spirt’ Dusk said.
She was right, it was the best way to explain the connection with her.  Clearing my throat
“Shall we get started, why did gain my wolf early?”
“it takes an extremely  strong wolf to shift early, but they need a catalyst, something to cause the barrier to drop..” she looked down for a second then back up at me “someone tried to hurt you" she didn’t phrase it like a question, she knew it was true, because someone tried to hurt her to. I could feel it.
“You have a strong wolf i can feel it, stronger then mine.  He didnt get far with you did he? The guy that tried to hurt you?” clearing my throat.
“ i shifted before he could get his hand past the waist line of my pants” i said. She closed her eyes and i knew. She wasnt so lucky. Her Mate put his hand over hers and i saw her relax instantly. I smiled.
“i can tell the person who hurt you got further but no matter what you are still stronger then him, better then him. Your mate clearly thinks so too. He looks at you with admiration”
“You are clearly very observant.  I feel a connection to you. My wolf star keeps telling me..”
“kindred Spirt” i said with her. And we laughed.
Everyone was just listening intently to our exchange i knew they had questions but they didnt want to interupt.
“Why cant i mind link with the pack?” i asked.
“Well, when someone at 18 gains their wolf, they are seen as mature members of the pack so they become integrated within it instantly,  even though you have your wolf, you wont be able to mind link until you accept your Alpha..”
I Go to say something because i do accept him.
“I’m not saying you don’t, i can tell you do but you have to accept him formally since you are a young wolf or you could wait until you turn 18 and it will kick in automatically. I do have to warn you if you do wait, it will give you a killer headache until the link is complete, it will take longer too and you will be passed out for a few days after.. i know because i waited it was an awful experience”  she continues before i could say anything.
I was not waiting.  Max was my Alpha.
I stood up walked in front of the Alpha. I got down on one knee “I Mia Sanderson of Shadow moon pack Accept Maximus Carter As my Alpha of Shadow moon pack"
I Felt a sharp pain shoot through my mind. I let out a small gasp, then there it was
‘Hi Mia’ i heard in thousand different voices  for a few minutes.
It took a couple of minutes for me to adjust and send a hello back.  Then i shut it off and stood.
Everyone was smiling at me with a huge grin.
“well i didn’t expect the whole pack to send hellos all at once” i chuckled.
“It establishes a link to the pack. That way when you need to send a message to only one pack member you can do so just by saying their name” i smiled and nodded.
‘Just like this Mia’ i heard Xzaviers voice in my head. My eyes met his and he smiled .
I didn’t say anything back, i went back and sat with Callie again.
“What will happen when i turn 18? Will a shift then be as painful as everyone says its supposed to be?” i asked
“ what do you mean you should have already experienced the pain of a first shift?” My father asked frowning.
“It didn’t really hurt, it just felt like burning through my veins, it was more uncomfortable then painful" i stated.
Everyone except my mom looked shocked.
“You shouldn’t have any problems shifting in the future and it wont be painful, although it seems your first shift was that of someone who had been shifting for a few months”
I didnt know what to say to that.
“What about finding her mate?” my mom asked.
“Mom!”
“What i need to know if i’m going to have to deal horny teenage boys around my unmated daughter. Or if it will just be your mate”
“oh god” i said looking at the ceiling.  There was a faint growl from across the room barely audible. But i heard it.
“She wont know who her mate is until she turns 18. But she may end up feeling a connection to her mate anyway but it wont be a full mate bond kind of connection until 18... if her mate is her age they wont know but if they are already 18, like John was he already knew i was his mate, i felt a connection to him, felt drawn to his presence but it was nothing compared to what i felt on the day of my 18th birthday.” She smiled at John.
I know wanted to know but i wasn’t going to ask it in front of everyone.  But my mom did.. embarrassingly.
“I dont think i have anymore questions” i said. Waiting to see if anyone else asked any.   They didn’t. I guess all the questions they wanted answers to had been asked.
“how long are you staying?” i asked Callie.
“We actually have to head back today, being delta wolves of our pack we cant be gone to long. But here take my number, if you have any questions or just need someone to talk to outside of the pack who understands call me” she gave me a card with her number on and squeezed my hand.
“Do you have time to stay for lunch?” the Luna asked.
“Of course that would be wonderful, thank you”
I hadn’t realised it was lunch time already. The afternoon training sessions started at 2.
We all made our way to the dining hall, i sat beside Callie, with her mate on her other side. Xzavier sat beside me and my parents where across from us beside the Luna with Jackson next to my father across from Xzavier, Alpha Max at the head of the table because it wasn’t a formal dinner in the pack we where sat at the dining table within the kitchen. Rather then the banquet hall.
The dinner was lovely and everyone was talking and laughing. Exchanging stories. Every time Xzavier would join in on a story his arm would come around the back of my chair as he turned to speak with John.  Always with a slight brush of my shoulder as he did so.
The touch felt like an electric shock each time. I also saw my father frowning again, he was an observant person like me. Or should i say i was observant like him. 
“We should head to the training grounds now its almost time.” My father stated.
My father kissed my mom on her head as he got up i gave Callie a cuddle telling her i was happy she came and it was lovely to meet her. Shaking hands with john and bowing to the Alpha and Luna i left.  Following my dad out.
“Sweetheart. Dont let them win" my mom whispered to me with a chuckle as she left to head home.
The training grounds where at the back of the pack house i followed behind my dad. Hoping i could just observe today. I knew i wouldn’t.
“Cade this is my daughter Mia" my father introduced me to the trainer and the highest ranking warrior of the pack.
“Ahh, well if it isnt the packs very own young shifter. Welcome to training” he said holding his hand out.
I shook his hand with a small smile “ lovely to meet you”
“So Alpha Max would like you be taught by Jackson and Xzavier and your father to supervise. They are both excellent fighters so other then me who better to learn from” he chuckled.
“We are ready to start when you are” i heard Jackson say behind me.
“Great, how’s never?” i mumbled. I really didnt like to fight. I didnt mind watching, i enjoyed the agility and strength it took but i had only hurt one person in my life and that was Damon.
“Never is not an option, now get over here” Jackson said he had started walking away a bit further from the others who where training.
I guess Jackson was taking the lead here. Xzavier and my dad stood to the side watching.
“So you really haven’t had any training? Not even with a warrior for a dad?” Jackson questioned.
“No she hasnt, i always tried to get her to but she would only just watch" my father answered for me.
Jackson held up his fists and told me to mirror his stance. I followed. He walked around me correcting my stance then stood back in front of me.
“Hit me” he said. Hold his hand up palms flat out.
“I really dont want to do that”
“come on punch my hand as hard as you can"
I sighed. I punched at his palm but even i knew it was weak.
“I know you can do better then that. That was like a pup hitting me... come on little one dont be a baby" Jackson said.
I could tell he was goading  trying to rile me up.
“I cant” i said lowering my fists.
Jackson grumbled something i didn’t quite catch.
He started running towards the pack house. I wasnt sure what he was doing until i saw him grab Courtney.
My blood ran cold. As he grabbed her by the hair and pulled her arm high behind her back. I heard courtney scream a little in pain.
“How about i hurt your little friend” he sneered “i could just tilt her head a little and rip her throat out" he tilted her head and saw him starting to reach up for her neck.
I filled with a huge amount of rage i had never felt before.
‘Protect her!’ Dusk shouted.
‘Always’ i responded and started running towards them.
I leaped into the air when i got close enough, and i shifted with ease mid air.
I saw Jackson push Courtney away, with wide eyes just before i landed on him.
I had him pinned under my paws and i snapped at his face.
‘He wants to fight him then lets make it a fair fight.’  Dusk said.
I Backed up off Jackson and made sure Courtney was covered behind me.  I could hear a chorus of ‘oh shit’ from the others. But i didn’t sense anyone was coming towards me.
I snapped at Jackson again and he shifted into his wolf.
I lunged at him. 
We where clawing and fighting each other. Me and dusk acting as one. He bite my hind leg , but i bit his front leg in return. Then even with my hind leg injured i managed to kick him far enough away. We started circling each other Looking for another opening.
‘Back down' Jackson mind linked to me.  I just snarled in return.  I was still filled with rage.
That was when my dad jumped into the middle.
“Enough! Shift back, both of you now!” he yelled. 
I looked at Jackson scoffed and turned away.
Walking over to Courtney, i saw tears streaming down her cheek, i nudged her hand with my head then lowered, motioning for her to climb on.
She did and i ran towards the pack house. I was surprised i could manage it was only my second time in wolf form but i felt stronger now then i first did.
I lowered to let Courtney get off my back, in my wolf form i came up to her ribs. She ran a hand through my fur. I literally purred at the contact.  I grabbed the bag with my change of clothes in with my mouth. Nodded at Courtney and ran to the side of the pack house to shift and change.
I had just attacked the future Beta.  I was going to be in serious trouble.
I walked around to Courtney.
“Are you alright?” i asked her. Pulling her in to a hug.
She nodded. “it was horrible watching you fight for me. He wasn’t really going to hurt me, he whispered that to me after he grabbed me. He  was just trying to get you to fight... but i dont think he expected that much of a fight... your wolf is beautiful too by the way. I cant believe you let me ride on your back"
“Your my best friend Courtney i would do anything to protect you. I trust you and so does Dusk. I best go see what punishment I’m facing for attacking the future Beta" she gasped but i gave her a reassuring smile. Even though i wasnt sure what i was now facing but that jackass just pulled a nasty trick.
I made my way back up the field.  I saw my father, Xzavier and Jackson talking.
As i got closer Jacksons back straightened. He looked me dead in the eye. I could feel mine and Dusks anger towards him and i wouldnt be afraid to tell him exactly what ill do. 
“That was a nasty trick you just pulled. Try that shit again and next time i wont make it a fair fight" i said standing directly infront of him. Though her towered over me i wasn’t going to be intimidated.
We stared each other down for a second. Then he smirked.  Oddly it calmed some of my rage.
“There’s that feisty little wolf i knew you had hidden in there somewhere.” Then he laughed, put his arm around my shoulder and said “Im sorry for the trick but damn if i didn’t get more then i bargained for. You just shifted mid air like it was nothing, you could have ripped my throat out before i even got a chance to react not to mention you put up one hell of a fight with a Beta wolf no less.  Come on let train some more"
“Im not in trouble for attacking the beta?”
I Asked looking towards Xzavier.
“Nope, it was all that idiots fault with his dumb ideas.”  He said with a small smile.
I sighed with relief.  Xzavier squeezed my shoulder again.
I went on with the beta showing me different fighting moves.
