CHAPTER 23

Mia.

A week had passed since the bonfire, the women in training had all improved enough that I allowed them more time.

Everything was going great we were collecting all the supplies we needed and set ups where going great.

I didnt feel so bad not being able to shiftfor the time being anyway. Courtneys birthday was tomorrow and Jackson was chomping at the bit to go see her come midnight but I told him I would beat him up if he interrupted the last time I would get a birthday sleepover with my best friend. Xavier wasnt happy at spending tonight apart but with a bit ofpersuasion he is now ok with it.

It has been our tradition to have sleepovers on our birthday, a night filled with tear jerking and belly laughing movies, ice cream and sweets.

We havent been able to have them the past couple of birthdays but we both agreed this year we had to. Poppy is going to be joining us this time too. My cousin had returned to his pack for a week and I knew that separation was hard for them both.

School had become completely desolate for us, we have had too much time off and even though I turned in the assignments that the head was sending us, I wasnt learning what I needed for the exams that where fast approaching. School is one of the last things on my mind, there was so much going on.

We were sitting in Courtneys room, setting up the first movie and changing into our Pjs.

How are things going with you and Leo? Courtney asks as I step back into her room.

Great, I feel some of the Mate bond towards him but its not as strong as it is for him. My Auntie said that if he marked me I would feel the full force of the bond but Leo doesnt want to do that until Im ready and sure. Its sweet of him but I really want to do more than fool around a bit

Oh god I dont think I need to know that much about my cousins sex life I chuckle. Truthfully I feel where she is coming from I went through the same, at the time though he hadnt told me I was his mate and I thought I was just setting myself up for heartache but I couldnt help but loose myself in his kisses.

Truthfully, before I knew Xavier was my mate, I wanted more than kisses, I just felt heartbreak would follow once he found his mate. Talk to him, if you feel sure and want him to mark you ask him.

I want to, but there is just so much going on right now, I feel like it can wait.

Can it though? Not to put a downer on the night but we are heading for a war. I dont think we all have the time we feel we might court says.

A silence falls and I know shes right, we have already lost some packs and we cant figure out the pattern for his next attack.

Enough serious talk. Its birthday sleepover, lets eat junk food until we are sick and cry to movies I say after a short while.

The rest of the night is spent laughing and crying and fun.

When we finally pass out asleep, I dont feel the burden thats on my shoulders, I feel light and happy. I needed this, time with my friends and just being the young adult we are supposed to be.

The next morning, me and poppy sneak out of the room to help set up the birthday breakfast with courts family, we pull out the gifts we had hidden the night before and add them to the pile.

Jackson is coming around after breakfast, but I know he is already up and wanting to come around now. He is trying to link me but Im just pushing him back out.
