Writer's POV
Present...

He looked at her. His mouth dry from breathing in and out rapidly. She was sleeping, her eyes closed and her expression relaxed. It almost made him forget what happened earlier.

He saw their wedding ring on her nightstand, barely visible from the dimmed light of the hospital room.

His eyes narrowed in thought as he slowly glided the door open and closing it before taking steps towards her bed. God, she was beautiful, the thought echoed in his head.

Her eyelids were pale, and he could see the blue and purple veins that were under them. Her lips were dry and crackly, and yet he so badly wanted to kiss them.

There was a chair besides her bed, he sat down and took the ring in his hand. Twirling it around his fingers and examining it, "I.." He started.

"I gave you this, you said you prefered it over a diamond one..." He inhaled trying to stop the tears gathering in his eyes.

"Emma. My love. I promise you that i will always love you... and no matter what challenges may carry us apart, we will always find a way back to each other. I love you... and I want you to know that, even if you don't feel the same.."

He reached for her hand, gently sliding the ring onto her finger and raising her hand to his lips, tilting his head down enough to place a kiss on top of her skin, a tear slipping from his eye and down to her hand.

He took a breath, gathering himself before standing up and placing her arm back down beside her body. He glanced at her features one last time before stepping back and walking away.
