Agent Carter 2x02, 2x03

July 1947
Los Angeles, USA

A year of freedom consisted of an extremely simple life.

Wake up, eat, read, listen to her records, go to work, eat, read, listen to her records, sleep. Repeat.

You could add visiting Stark and Jarvis in between. And a paranoid routine of checking three times her locks around the penthouse before going to sleep, as well as watching her surroundings discretely every fifteen seconds whenever she went out, in fear someone would attack her and take her away for another life of captivity.

She didn't like to think too much about her nightmares either.

She hadn't used her powers in two years (the ones she could control at least), it felt odd, but freeing as well.

That's what she told herself at least. She was always better at ignoring her problems rather than actively solving them.

She had managed to find a job at a flower shop. She didn't earn much, but it was enough for her to eat and buy either books or music once in a while, considering she didn't have to worry about the house and its expenses thanks to Howard.

The Thompson was reading her copy of The Little Prince for the third time in her terrace when her bell rang. She furrowed her eyebrows in confusion alarmed. When Howard visited, he entered either unannounced or knocking loudly on the door calling for her, whereas Jarvis, sometimes his wife Ana, always called before coming and knocked softly.

She didn't have any other visitors.

Closing her book she walked with it in hand leaving it on top of the alcohol cabinet she didn't use. The edges of her dress swaying beautifully with the movement. Looking through the small cavity in the door, she found herself being happy at who was at the other side.

"Hi Peggy," she said softly but confident after opening the door.

"Hello, Rose" they stood there for a second wondering what to do next, deciding to go in for a hug, which lasted barely a second, a huge step for them, nonetheless.

"Come in," Rosemary invited her in. "What's new in your life after six days?" she joked. It was the last time they had talked over the phone.

"They sent me to the SSR base in Los Angeles, you'll be seeing more of me for the next weeks if you don't mind."

"That's great. Where will you be staying?"

"At Howard's."

"Oh, we'll be almost neighbours then."

"Yeah. I wanted to come over to see you before my shift at the SSR. See how you were doing."

"As you can see, I'd say I'm...very well," she said smiling lightly.
