10th of October, 1941

Hydra Base, Swiss Alps

At 4.59 in the morning, Rosemary Dziedzic was lying on her metal bed very much awake. Her eyes were closed, for she didn't feel like looking at the dull walls she had been staring at for who knows how long.

She didn't have a clock because Hydra wasn't keen on their prisoners to have a sense of time, truthfully at this point she could care less, time was relative and if she had something to measurer it, she was sure days would feel even longer than they already were.

She could feel the protuberance of the dent she had done approximately two years ago poking at her. She had punched her bed after having a worse day than the ones she usually had, she didn't know then the strength she had since she hadn't grown accustomed to it. The serum Dr Henryk had done wasn't as strong as Dr Erskine's but she had underestimated the effects it was going to have on her whatsoever.

Thoughts were running through her brain, so familiar to her. Everything she thought during the day didn't matter, for she would always end up formulating different scenarios of possible ways of escaping this organization, in hopes of reaching the feeling which was carved into her soul ever since she was seven years old.

Freedom.

Seven letters that many people took for granted and that Hydra had been trying to eliminate from her mind and body, through words and pain, to no avail. Seeing as even with her failed attempts of escaping and the punishments that came with them, she would still stay awake at night thinking of getting out of their grasp.

Her days, even though slightly different, would follow the same routine. When her superiors had a bad day or she wasn't working well enough for their expectations —mostly Dr Henryk's— her days would vary from a regular day to a punishment day, which consisted of a higher form of humiliation and pain.

Her last "slip up" had been six months ago, when she tried to run away and her lessons after that lasted two months. As far as Rosemary knew, she had done nothing that could increase their mistrust in her since then, so she was confused when she heard several footsteps approaching her door instead of the usual ones, and when six men burst into her room unannounced, she knew this wasn't going to be a regular day.

She opened her eyes when two of the men grabbed her harshly by the arms and got her out of bed. She wasn't a stranger to this treatment, but since she couldn't recall doing anything wrong, she decided to speak.

"What is going on?" After years of practice, the sixteen-year-old although alarmed managed to keep a calm demeanour. As she was walking with two men keeping a hold on her and another pair both in front and back, she wondered with wariness the reason for so much precaution.

"You are requested at Dr Henryk's lab" The phrase itself managed to set every fibre of her body on high alert and as they neared the lab she knew so well, she noticed a glowing object she hadn't seen before. Its brightness lighting up the whole room making the grey walls look as if they were a beautiful blue shade.

Though the object was captivating she was trained to analyse every detail of any situation, and when she saw the doctor next to some medical tools and tubes with strange liquids she understood why they had decided to bring her with all of these men that were supposed to restrain her if she refused to be their lab rat.

Vivid memories of the time when she was injected with the serum came to Rosemary's mind. She remembered the liquid entering her veins and the excruciating pain that came only a blink later. And as she relived those moments an unconscious reaction followed.

She kicked the man at her right allowing her to remove her arm from his grasp while punching the agent to her left. If she were another regular agent they may have been able to stop her, but Hydra had pushed her to be one of the best, and they had succeeded.

The previous action took her less than two seconds and as she pushed the men in front of her into the laboratory, she bent to avoid the grasp of the ones behind her. A fight broke into all of the agents with her.

She may have been smaller than them, but with the serum, she was slightly stronger than the average human and even before it, she knew how to use her physique to her advantage. Rosemary was slim and flexible and that helped her a lot in combat.

Despite having a great technique, she knew that she was going to enter that lab anyway, but she wasn't going in there without a fight. She knew that trying to defeat those men was pointless but she still ran away into the corridors knowing there wasn't going to be any escape.

Even when they did grab her and head-butted her with a gun, Rosemary still screamed for them to know that she was not okay with this as she was being carried away with her feet sliding against the floor.

The men strapped her to the lab table with restraints so tight they felt like fire. She looked into the eyes that were so much like hers yet looked so different because of the coldness they held and tried to persuade him to stop.

"Tatko prosze!" (Daddy, please!) Rosemary tried pleading in their native tongue. She had stopped referring to this man as her father since no father should ever put his daughter through any pain, even less on purpose, but she thought that maybe, just maybe, if she uttered that word he would have a change of heart. However, she had tried that before, several times throughout the years. Henryk Dziedzic was not a man who could be manipulated, especially with what he considered to be a childish play.

"Must you always be so difficult Beatrycze," Dr Henryk muttered acknowledging her by her middle name which he always preferred much more. "You should know by now that when I have to work with you I expect you to be here with no tantrums, córeczka," (daughter) he added. His Polish accent being more prominent as well as the calculating tone in his voice.

"Do you really want your mother to suffer the consequences of your insubordination?"

Only until she felt tears drying on her face, she realized she had been crying. The mention of her mother changed her mood instantaneously. Eyeing the glowing object again, Rosemary spoke with an expression as cold as the one her father was using.

"What are you going to do to me this time? " Her voice came out raspy due to the screaming she did before being forced into the room.

"This is the Tesseract, you may have heard about it during the past with your eavesdropping. This is what will give Hydra the power to free the world." Her breaths were deep as she listened to her father speak with his aura of superiority. "Schmidt thinks the cube can be used to modify our weapons, that fool. I told you moje dziecko, you are destined to be great." (My child).

She watched intensely he grabbed some utensils and a syringe that was filled with a substance she didn't know, the other scientist under his command doing the same. "I will make you great and when his puppets take too long to find a way to modify his weapons, I will have accomplished to create the greatest weapon of them all." Dr Henryk began his procedure.

Rosemary remembered the pain she felt years prior when she had been experimented on with the serum, that was the caress of a soft feather compared to this.

As a blinding pain took over her body, a piercing scream from the depth of her lungs escaped her throat.

That was the morning in which Rosemary Dziedzic was injected with the first vial of what would make her, indeed, Hydra's greatest weapon.

And its downfall.
