A weak cough broke the silence between us.

I looked down at the nearly lifeless body, delicately caressing his cheek with my hand. I couldn't help but fear that any force would break him, that any movement would cause him to crumble into ashes. It was becoming exhausting to hold back my cries, something which usually came so naturally to me.
Soon, a few silent tears began running down my face, as much as I tried, I couldn't stop them.

His hands were shaky as they slowly reached up to cup my cheek and they immediately fell back down. Taking his hands, I gently rested his hand back on my cheek, causing a small sob to escape.

"Don't be sad. Please, don't be sad," he coughed, his eyes turning into crescents.
"How can't I be sad?" I muttered, adverting my eyes away. He tried to speak but instead coughed again, causing blood to spill from his mouth. He was weak, his body growing much colder and colourless with every passing second.

We shared one more weary smile as his eyes started to close. "You can't leave me," I cried, tears now streaming freely down my face. I nuzzled my face closer into his palm as it quickly grew colder and more weightless as time passed.

"I'm sorry," he managed to mumble before his arm collapsed to the ground. My eyes widened. Frustrated. Terrified. Hopeless. And devastated at the sight.  A wail emitted from body, clutching my stomach - every single part of me seemed to ache.

"Pietro!" Wanda cried, her body trembling in pain as she collapsed next to me.
