。・゜・Chapter 9・゜・。
"The world is full of monsters with friendly faces"
The rest of the day was a blur for Taehyung. His mind stayed occupied on Min Yoongi, the mysterious young adult who decided to sit by Taehyung willingly and without complaint. Taehyung wondered if the guy had an ulterior motive, if maybe he was planning to enter Taehyung's life and get close to him with the intention of breaking his already fragile heart.
From what he could tell, Yoongi was a genuine person who wanted to be the poor lonely boy's friend and save him from his misery. Taehyung was an observer who easily picked up on social queues and relied on his ability to read people like a book. Although this time, his strategy didn't necessarily work. Of course, Taehyung picked up on personality traits, but they all seemed meticulously handcrafted and utterly false. He only picked up on what Yoongi wanted him to pick up, the rest of his true persona was guarded behind a whimsical half grin.
Everything that went on in the first period regarding yoongi felt like an act. A very intricate act that was performed by an actor who was outstandingly good at his role. Most of the conversation went unheard by Taehyung because he was too busy trying to decipher the real Min Yoongi within his movements and body language. The other, however, was very talented at hiding himself behind this mask he had created.
This irked Taehyung to no end because no matter how much he stared or pried with his calculating eyes, he couldn't seem to see the true side of Yoongi. Although Taehyung doubted there was only one side to the male and believed his hidden identity was way more complex.
Taehyung didn't see Yoongi again for the rest of the day. He had never been aware of his presence before either and that confused Taehyung because he thought he would've seen him at least once. It was almost like after Yoongi finished talking with Taehyung he slipped back into the shadows and disappeared from the public eye.
As Taehyung ran through the series of events that occurred earlier that day he absentmindedly tapped his pencil against the hardwood of his desk. He was in his last period of the day and just wanted to leave the cursed building. Pulling an all nighter was not the smartest idea and Taehyung was left entirely drained from his late night adventures. His life seemed to have taken a one-eighty in a matter of hours and Taehyung wasn't sure if he was happy about it.
The bell rang overhead, alerting him that his class was over. Quickly packing up his bag Taehyung hopped out of his seat and walked over to the door. Namjoon had told him to go straight home after school. This meant, no staying at the library to study, no stopping at the convenience store for a snack, just leaving the building promptly after school and heading home. Taehyung was expected to be there when Namjoon got home from work as his job prevented him from picking Taehyung up. Taehyung was somewhat thankful for this because it's plain embarrassing having to be picked up by your older brother in college.
Taehyung could drive himself home, after all, he has his license. However, they only have one car and Namjoon has to use it daily to go to work. So instead, he has to make the short trek home from college everyday. Taehyung didn't dislike the walk though, it was a welcomed time to clear his head and enjoy the beauty of nature.
Taehyung pushed the front doors of the college building open and padded out onto the crowded sidewalk. He easily pushed his way through the people who didn't even acknowledge his existence. It's crazy how little people pay attention to others. They only give them a slight thought if they are involved with the person directly. Otherwise, people carry on with their day, disregarding the individuals they pass on a daily basis.
'Humans have to be the weirdest inhabitants on planet Earth', Taehyung thought.
He continued to go unnoticed by everyone until he made it to the sidewalk that led to the multitude of alleyways. Coming across a person on this path was rare and Taehyung rather enjoyed that factor. He got to be alone with his own thoughts and opinions.
Hiking his backpack further up on his shoulders, Taehyung grasped onto the straps with a tight grip. Although it was the middle of the day, he was slightly nervous to enter the alleys again. He had taken the long path to school this morning, not minding the longer trek if it meant he could avoid the alleys. He would've done that again if he didn't have to be home before his brother got home from work.
Okay, maybe that's a lie.
Taehyung has been telling himself that's the reason he has to use the alleys to get home when in reality he wants to check and see if the duo had dropped something. Taehyung was desperate to find any information he could get his hands on when it came to discovering the mysterious duo's identity. He hoped that they accidentally left something important in the alley, something that could give away their true identity. Taehyung certainly did not want to step foot in the alleys again and even though he knew this journey would be pointless, he couldn't pass away the opportunity.
Taehyung swiftly turned into the first alley opening and padded down the long trail of concrete. Slowing down as he neared the entrance of the second alleyway, he took a deep breath and tried to calm his racing heart. He tried to convince himself that everything would be fine. The two males didn't seem like the type of people to be out during the day. Instead, they preferred the night where they could lurk in the shadows and not be easily spotted. The chances of them being in the alley was low.
Taehyung hesitantly shuffled closer to the second alleyway and slowly peaked around the corner. Holding his breath, Taehyung let his eyes wander around the surrounding area. As far as he could tell, it was deserted and Taehyung wouldn't encounter anyone.
Blowing out a breath of relief, Taehyung walked into the alleyway and began to look around for any clues. He was careful not to touch the trash littered around the ground or nasty colored water puddles. Just as he was about to give up and rush home, Taehyung spotted a small piece of paper caught under a black garbage bag. The paper blew softly with the wind, the edges flailing against the breeze.
Taehyung would've passed the page without a second thought if it wasn't the same type of paper that was used for his note. It was a slightly textured off-white torn paper.
An exact match to his note.
