January is gone, and February rolls in. Anjali comes to see me at Lone Star almost twice a week when she isn't busy with school. The other day, she invited me for dinner for my birthday. She plans to take me to an Indian restaurant called Haveli in East Village.
So I walk along First Avenue. I have never tried Indian food, so I am inquisitive about what we will be eating there. I meet her in front of the restaurant at eight o'clock sharp.
When she arrives, she has very tall, emerald green high heels on, and her slim legs are exposed to her knee in the cold air. The rest of her body is covered in her black wool coat. It is bloody cold outside, but my date looks freaking hot!
When we get in the restaurant, I help her take her coat off. She is elegantly dressed in a dark green evening dress, and she is stunningly beautiful.
"Do you remember that song we danced to in Chelsea?" smiling, she tells me.
"Baby, why don't you go put your best dress on?"
"I felt like dressing up tonight for you. I love that song! What's the name of the song?"
I tell her it is called 'Why Don't We Just Dance.' I still can't take my eyes off of her. She is gorgeous tonight. She usually doesn't wear much makeup, but tonight she wears sexy red lipstick, and her large brown eyes are accentuated with black mascara. I think this will be my lucky evening!
We are guided to a table toward the back of the restaurant. The space is narrow, and the entire ceiling is filled with thousands of colorful light bulbs. It is a totally insane view. I instantly love this place. She squeezes herself between two tables to get to the chair. I can't stop staring at her behind, even though it is rude to do so. She finally sits in a small chair, and I sit right in front of her.
"You look so amazing. You are always pretty, but tonight you are stunningly beautiful!" I tell her right away.
She smiles and gets shy.
"Thank you, but stop complimenting me! You are embarrassing me."
"I hope you have never eaten Indian food before. This is my favorite restaurant. My parents always took me when we were celebrating something. This is one of the best in the city."
I shake my head.
"Never! It's my first time. I have no idea what your dishes are. I can't wait! The only thing I know is you don't eat beef."
"That's what everyone thinks, but many Indians eat beef. It is probably better that I order for both of us. I will choose some typical dishes so you can get a feel for Indian food. Do you have anything you aren't crazy about?" she smiles and tells me.
I tell her I can pretty much eat anything. When the waiter comes to the table, she orders everything for us. I repeat how beautiful she looks tonight, and she tells me.
"What can I do with you? You are crazy!"
She is right. I am totally crazy about her. Now, I am holding her hand while she starts to talk about California.
"Before we met, did you happen to live in California?"
I was in California, so I said yes.
"Were you living close to the San Francisco area?" she continues.
I was, in fact, living in the San Francisco bay area for several months. So I also said yes to that question. I feel like I am being investigated, so I asked her to get to the point.
