SO LETS JUST SAY our plan hadn't gone according to plan... like, at all. We didn't find out who was controlling Jackson, Allison spilled her guts to her dad and the Argent's decided to step on our toes, someone — who wasn't on Sheriff Stilinski's theory list — died, Victoria Argent tried to kill Scott.. honestly, I could continue but the reminder of our failure was much too painful.
So far spring break hadn't been as fun as I'd anticipated it to be, in fact it was pretty boring. All it had consisted of was Scott, Stiles and I looking for Jackson. Stiles and I were trying to keep ourselves occupied, too busy filled with grief that the Sheriff had been put into such a position where he was practically forced to hand his badge over. He was taking a 'temporary' leave of absence but the catch was, his leave was currently indefinite.
We just wanted something to distract ourselves rather than sitting in guilt and that involved looking for our missing Kanima friend.
Wednesday brought me some relief however because it was Lydia's birthday and I had promised her I'd spend the day with her. I had left Stiles looking through the 2006 Beacon Hills High yearbook before I left to go shopping with Lydia. She had bought five dresses for herself, one for Allison and one for me — even when I had told her not to. She didn't care that it was her birthday and that I should've been the one buying her dress, she found something on one of the racks she thought suited me and she bought it before I even had a chance to protest.
She'd bought me a white bandage dress that wrapped around my body nicely. It was a perfect fit if I was being honest and when I tried it on at her house I had to admit that I loved it. Lydia had done a good job in picking it out for me and I had thanked her several times while offering to pay for it.
We spent our afternoon taking our time in getting ready together. I straightened my hair before putting it in a half up do and she curled her hair like always. Lydia opted for a dramatic eyeliner look while I went for a more subtle look of gold simmer on my lids and mascara. The whole process of getting ready from start to finish had taken us hours but that was because we got sidetracked by talking. It was almost as if our lives were normal as we chatted about mundane things as opposed to her telling me about her most recent hallucinations.
It was like an escape for me and I loved that.
The party had started at nine and I had been standing in Lydia's kitchen pouring myself a drink of vodka coke when the birthday girl walked in with a tray of punch in her hand, "Stiles is here."
"Is he?" I asked her then, wincing as my head throbbed. A sudden sharp pain jolted from the back of my head to the front and I took a glass of punch off Lydia's tray.
My friend rose a curious brow at me, "What's wrong?"
"Headache, migraine — one or the other." I mumbled, downing the punch.
She nodded in amusement, "And because alcohol makes headaches go away."
I gave her a smile filled with sarcasm and nodded, "Well I'm hoping if I drink enough I'll subdue it until the morning."
She only shrugged as she turned to leave, "Your hangover." Were her words and with that she turned to approach two of the very few guests that had arrived thus far. I looked around the kitchen, trying to ignore the music that played, and noticed that there was hardly anyone here. If I compared this to her party back in September to mark the start of the new school year the kitchen should've been cramped right now. In fact, the entire house should've been bursting with people and it was the opposite.
I sighed, grabbing my red cup and heading towards the front door where I assumed Stiles would be. Over the music I could hear my black heals clicking off her hardwood floor and took note of how my feet were already starting to ache — the balls of my feet in particular. I sipped on my vodka coke, swallowing the concoction as I saw Stiles in the hallway and walked over to him.
