After that short lengthened nightmare in the bus, Jiya had been lost in another world for a whole day. All her school work was in a mess, she almost ruined her project presentation and she stayed quiet the whole day. At about every second she would check her phone. What was she actually waiting for? Arzoo tried to talk to her but she would just beat the bush every time. Arzoo couldn’t bear to see her best friend in that state; she had decided to ask her what was wrong, whatever it took, and try to sort it out.
“You have to tell me what’s wrong, Jiya! If you don’t how do you think we’ll solve it?” Arzoo burst at her. “I told you, everything’s fine, I’m just a bit stressed out and tired! That’s all!” Jiya ignored her once again. She took out her phone from her pocket and checked it once again but no notifications out; she put it back in her pockets. “Now tell me, why do you keep checking your phone like every second?” Arzoo asked as she stood up with crossed arm and a hard curious look. “I’m just checking the time, chill!” Jiya said as she got up as well. Arzoo let a sigh of disbelief and said, “Look Jiya, I’m your best friend, you have to tell me what’s wrong? I’ve never seen you that upset, except when Ashar—”At the sound of his name, Jiya’s eyes widened as she started panting heavily. She turned away from Arzoo and tightened her grip around her heavy weighted books. Every time someone mentioned that name, her past resonated back in her mind as if it was only yesterday. “Hey, I’m sorry, relax ok! Is it about him?” Arzoo calmed her as she put a hand on her right shoulder. Jiya didn’t reply. Her gaze was fixed to the ground with a strange kind of fear in her eyes. She closed her eyes slowly and that fierce look flashbacked in her mind, that muscular hand with a silvery bracelet with an “A” initial on it. She felt that grip over her arm again and that pain was back even at the thought of it. That evil grin was glued to one part of her brain and she tried a lot to forget about it but it was something that would never leave her. She just wanted someone to pull her out from that fear and darkness and take her to the bright side of life.
She suddenly felt her heart skip a beat when her phone went on full volume. “Come on, pick it up, it’s only a call!” Arzoo said and smile a little. She took a deep breath and answered the call. “Hello?” Jiya said as she cleared her voice. “Hey, It’s Hussain here!” At the sound of his voice, she felt a strange type of peace in her mind. His voice was so relaxed and happy; she could listen to him talking for hours without getting bored. “What’s up? So, what have you decided about tomorrow’s plan?” Hussain asked excitedly. “Hmm, I don’t know, I still haven’t asked my friends about it, and besides tomorrow I don’t think I can go out! I have to attend a classmates’ birthday party, so I don’t think—” Jiya explained. “Hey that’s not a fuss! We can go out tonight! I mean come on; we both know we’re free, so tonight!” Hussain announced his decision. “But—” “No buts and no ifs! See ya tonight!” Hussain said and dismissed the call.
“We’re going out with Hussain tonight… But, how did he even get my number?” Jiya asked curiously. “Are we going out or are you going out?” Arzoo teased. “Shut up! We’re both going out!” Jiya smiled as she answered her. “Alright alright, oh and secondly, I gave him your number. I mean come on the world knows that he’s not interested into having mine, so I gave him yours! There’s no problem if you like him so much!” Arzoo clarified proudly. “What? I don’t like Hussain! For god sake Arzoo, hear what you’re saying, please!” Jiya replied still with her head away, blushing internally. “And I think he has a girlfriend!” Jiya defended herself. “Come on, little girl’s jealous!” Arzoo teased her again. Jiya however felt something for Hussain, but still she couldn’t figure out what it was.
