Jiya looked at Hussain, waiting for him to say something but he was staring. "What could he be staring at?" thought Jiya. She adjusted her clothes neatly and tried to sneak a peek at him. Minutes later, he was still staring. After Jiya realized that she was the victim, her hands started trembling. She instantly felt a hot temperature on her cheeks. She just wanted to burst into tears but cry for what? Hussain's look made her uneasy but she loved the view. Alright, maybe she didn't love him but maybe a little stroke of crush was rising. What was the harm into crushing on someone after all?
"What are you doi-" Arzoo unexpectedly came to the balcony basically ruining the moment. But she realized the blunder she had caused and wished she had granted them more time. As soon as Hussain saw Arzoo enter, he instantly shifted his gaze to the busy road downstairs. The traffic was so dense with people beeping and shouting at each other in the endless war for the right to pass through. So much noise it caused; but for an instant all this didn't seem to exist.
"Ahh...Hussaainnnn..." Arzoo trailed down and nudged Jiya. Jiya's beam immediately turned into a serious look. "What, oh Hussain! I...I didn't even realize he was there!" She lied and made her way inside. "Really?" Arzoo teased and let out a little giggle. As soon as Hussain glanced at the balcony, Arzoo bellowed joyfully at Hussain and the latter smiled awkwardly.
"No matter how much you try Jiya, I know what you feel for Hussain. I'm very much sure, there's no one better than Hussain for you..." Arzoo mumbled under her breath.
Hussain got inside his apartment and shifted to his bedroom with his IPod in hand. He locked his bright red speakers to his ears and lay flat on his bed. He had to think of a way to get Shehry to Jiya. Come on, it was so obvious that Shehry was deeply in love with Jiya but he knew he would have to intervene because Shehry himself would never accept his feelings for her. He turned around, this time with his back flat to the mattress and faced the ceiling. He racked his brains but not a single idea came out. It was not like it was the first time he was setting up two persons but he couldn't think of anything for the time being. He sat up his bed and removed his speakers from his ears. What was wrong? Why he could think of nothing else except Jiya? The thought of Jiya drying her hair on the balcony flashed back to his mind but he was brought back to his senses as soon as he saw a picture of Shehryaar and him, framed to the wall. His brother was his first priority. But the question was that was he actually happy setting Shehryaar with Jiya? He eventually fell asleep by the thought of it.
He could hear that little laugh, sweet, cute and funny. In the dim light, he noticed her dark brown curls hiding under the grey beanie that she was wearing. Yet, the falling curls lay on her narrow shoulders. As soon as she turned around, the first thing he could sight was her feature highlight; her brown sparkling chocolate eyes. They sparkled along with the rays of light that reached her brown orbs through her curls. Even the sunrays got jealous of the little sparkles that snatched their delightful beauty. Her eyes eventually became teary as she was laughing like crazy. He squinted more to have a better look of her face but in vain. All of a sudden, he felt he was going far from her. He was trying to move but he was being pulled backward accompanied by a loud thump. He moved his hands to his ears as he couldn't bear the noise. He took a last view of the girl and she slowly turned into dust and vanished.
Hussain flew his eyes open and realized that it was just.a.dream. He sat up his bed and turned off his alarm that was ringing off like as if the device had gone out of control. It was only seven in the morning and he had basically all the time in the world to get ready for college. Hussain rubbed his eyes to remove the sleep from them and lay flat on his bed again, with his eyes closed.
The dream he had just made, resonated back in his mind. He slowly opened his eyes and sat by the side of his bed. Who could that girl actually be? He heard people saying that you often dream of the person your heart desires the most. But who was that girl? His mind was saying that it had to be Sarah, it was so obvious, but his heart contradicted his mind. "Confusing stuff it is..." he mumbled under his breath and headed to the washroom.
"Hello! Are you there? I'm talking to you! Yo, Hussain!" Hussain regained his senses after touring that little world of his for several seconds. He was standing at the bus stop, waiting for the daily bus to arrive, but surprisingly he turned out to be way earlier today. He turned around and found Jiya bent to the floor, struggling to gather her dropped papers together. "Offer me some help maybe?" Jiya asked as she messily put her hair up in a bun. "Hi, yeah sure..."
She dropped her bad on the ground and her assignment papers were flying in all directions. On the pretext of helping her, Hussain stole sights from her at every second. "What the devil am I doing? I'm supposed to unite her and Shehry. Think about Sarah, Hussain, think about Sarah only" he recalled and braced himself. "Here you go! That was the last one!" Hussain said and handed Jiya over the last sheet and beamed. "Thanks a lot. You always come at my rescue, sort of a messiah I think..." Jiya said and smiled. "Nah, come on, we're friends aren't we?" Hussain stated. Jiya nodded happily and greeted Hussain. "You're not taking the bus today?" Hussain interrupted as Jiya was ready to go. "No, I have afternoon classes and I have to meet a friend at her house and then we're going to college directly from there." Jiya explained still struggling to gather the papers in the correct order. "Oh, alright, see ya' then." Hussain said and waved at her.
He watched her moves carefully, how she was smiling at him and she called him to help her. His large hand, covered with a dark leather glove, reached the ignition key and he turned the machine on. He pressed on the accelerator until the car's engine whirred. He waited for her to cross the road to the other side and the car started moving slowly. He changed gears and the car speed augmented. He was ready to hit her, only inches from her lower hip when that guy pulled her to him, avoiding the planned accident.
Jiya hid her face in his leather jacket and was panting heavily out of fear. Hussain held her close to his chest with his arms wrapped around her petite shoulders. For an instant, he thought he would have a heart attack. He just wanted to hug her tightly and secure her from all the harm of the world. But, what the heck did that vehicle just do? "Are you alright?" he asked and Jiya pulled back. Her breathing calmed down by Hussain's comfort, she just wanted to reside there for the rest of her life. "Yeah, I'm alright..." The vehicle which was now meters away, horned a few times until their attention was driven to it. He removed a hand out of the car window with a thumb up. Hussain and Jiya, perplexed at that attitude glared at it for minutes when the thumb up turned into a thumb down.
Jiya's heartbeat fastened at that act. She lightly tilted her head up to look at Hussain in distraught and looked back at the moving black vehicle that had just tried to take her life. Whatever it was, she doubted that something was fishy.
