Hussain's POV

Everything was scattered on the floor; pillows, newspapers, notes, broken vases and flowers and not to forget the pungent smell that penetrated my nostrils and tried to knocked me out. I braced myself and started calling for Jiya. Every time I opened my mouth, the toxic gas entered my stomach and I felt like my lungs were about to burst. I scanned every single room trying to look for Jiya but she was nowhere to be seen. I checked the kitchen, the bathroom and when I reached her bedroom I felt my heart skip a beat. There she was on the floor yelping with suffocation. I rushed to her and caught her in my arms. I could tell by her eyes that she knew that I would come to save her. Her eyes sparkled with the tears that were tingling in her eyes and rolling down her cheeks. She cupped my left cheek with her weak trembling hand and seconds after, she passed out. I couldn't afford to lose her at any cost. I took her in my arms and carried her outside ignoring the dizziness that tried to knock me out. When I reached the apartment door, a dozen other neighbors were gathered around her apartment and helped me out. Soon my vision blurred and all that I remembered was that they took her away from me. I no longer felt her warmth nor her scent. I heard a lot of noise around but I could tell my brain was too weak to focus. I leaned against the wall and I heard Shehry call my name. However, one particular person caught my eye; the tall guy in the black hoodie, he looked at me and I could see him smirk devilishly as he took the stairs. I tried to stop him but I was too weak. Shehry's voice came nearer then pitch black, I passed out.

Jiya's POV

He gripped my hair and pinned me to the wall. I felt my back ache with pain after the collision. "I will destroy him"; those words echoed my ears a hundred million times before I fluttered my eyes open, panting. I was in a silent room, the wall painted in light blue with a small couch on my right and I could see nurses and doctors walk down the hall outside through the ajar door; I was at the hospital. Arzoo was sitting next to my bed with her head down on the mattress. My sudden movement woke her up and she gave me a worrying look. As she was about to talk, the doctor entered the room. "How are you feeling, Miss D'crouz?" the doctor asked as he checked my report card. "I feel like my lungs are about to burst" I replied as I took deep breaths. "You shall do fine in a week or so but there's one thing I have to ask you Miss D'crouz." He looked at me with suspicious eyes and then his eyes fell to my wrists that were bloody red with bruises. I nodded anxiously as I knew where he was getting to. "In any way, do you think it is a case of assault?" the doctor asked and raised his eyebrows. I bit my lip and the room was filled with tension. I needed help but maybe the doctor wasn't the appropriate person. I gripped the bed sheet and replied nervously, "No doctor, I mistakenly left the gas knob open". "Are you sure?" the doctor gave me a suspicious look. I nodded quickly and avoided eye contact with him. There was an awkward silence in the room and both Arzoo and I exchanged perplexed looks. After the doctor stepped out of the room, Arzoo almost jumped on me and embraced me in a hug. "Thank god you are fine! What happened?" Arzoo asked as her voice trembled with worry. "It was him Arzoo." By my words, Arzoo's big brown orbs widened as she knew as well how intense the situation had become. "But how can it be him, is he not in-" "Jail, no". I completed her sentence. "In this case we should inform the police!" Arzoo stood up with anger almost dropping down the metal stool she was sitting on. All of a sudden, Hussain crossed my mind. The way he held me in his arms, I felt his heart racing of worry when he held me close to him. Did he feel the same way as I did? "Hey how's Hussain? Did he come?" I asked as my eyes were longing to see him. "He-" she trailed down as she approached me slowly. "He saved your life." Arzoo said as she placed a hand on mine. "He really cares for you Jiya, you are very lucky." She trailed down and quietly got up and left me to think. I couldn't help but think how Hussain was doing, was he ok?

Hussain's POV

I felt an obnoxious pain in my chest and as if my head would burst. I tried to wake up but my eyes wouldn't open. I felt a light prick in my left arm but it lasted only a few seconds. "Hussain can you hear me?" I heard my brother telling me. I wanted to answer back, but the words just wouldn't come out. A few minutes later I finally woke up, where, in a place I hated the most, the hospital. The smell of medicines, disinfectant and the new machines filled my nostrils and I wanted to get out of there as soon as possible. "Hello Mr. Asif, how are you feeling?" the doctor asked me as he checked my pulse. "I would certainly do better if you let me out of this place doctor." I replied. "You shall do Mr. Asif, you are getting discharged this evening." The doctor reassured me as he scribbled something in my report card with my name written on the front cover in dark marker and handed over a piece of paper to Shehry after which the latter got out of my room. "Just to inform you Mr. Asif, your friend is also doing pretty great, she regained consciousness a few minutes ago." He beamed and patted my shoulder. He was probably talking about Jiya; "Can I meet her doctor?" I asked hoping he wouldn't discard my demand. "Very well, she is in room 13B. But before that Mr. Asif, there is one thing that I need to tell you, I kind of noticed some bruises on her hands but she is denying any kind of violence." The doctor informed me and exited the room. Violence and Jiya? Two words that didn't go along well. I had to see her as fast as I could. I immediately got up the bed and my vision blurred for a few seconds from getting up to fast. I headed down the hallway and scanned the door of every room desperately hoping to get to her the fastest. After walking a few paces down I got to her room; I quietly sneaked in but there was someone else in there. I heard light sobbing, I hid behind the door and tried to listen to their conversation but in vain.
