Oh StarClan, tell Lightspark we need those kits, Featherheart begged. He lifted onto his paws and padded outside the den, he could feel a silvery shape beside him. It was thick-furred and eyes glowing green. Foxclaw . . . tell me what to do, he wanted to meow, but the cat had disappeared, and what was left was a bright star shining in the twilight dark sky.

Featherheart went back inside and looked at his half-eaten mouse, he didn't feel hungr-

y. Featherheart pushed the mouse away, his green eyes blank. Featherheart curled to sleep besides Pinefrost who was snoring softly. Featherheart tried to sleep, but how could he?

Featherheart was sitting up, his green eyes tired and blank. Pinefrost was chatting with Lightspark, while Quillflight went out hunting. Creampaw was visiting and was playing with the kits. Featherheart's gaze locked outside the den, he felt like sleeping but every time he closed his eyes to sleep he couldn't.

He didn't realize when Creampaw had gotten close and was now faced to face with his sister. "Eek!" Featherheart leapt to his paws, fur bristling.

"Even a newborn kit would know when a cat is getting near," Creampaw growled. "Wh-

at is it?"

"Nothing's wrong, but it isn't right either," he stammered.

"You haven't slept, or eaten, and you're just lazing around all day." She growled. "Why

don't you go hunting? It'll boost your energy up."

Featherheart shook his head. "I just don't feel like myself, that's enough."

Doing as he was told, Featherheart leaped onto a rabbit. It's delicious scent swirled ins-

ide his nose, but despite his empty belly, he refused to eat it. He dug it into the earth. Featherheart decided to catch one more piece of prey.

He dropped the prey down and he felt all the sudden hungry again. A silvery shape floated around him, it softly whispered in his ear: "Eat, my love." Anything for you Foxclaw. He picked out a mouse and ate it in ravenous bites. His stomach began to get full and he felt satisfaction in him. He drew his tongue over his mouth to clean the leftover blood.

"I see your hunger is back," Creampaw purred.

Featherheart nodded. "Foxclaw . . ." he finished, not wanting to say anymore.

Creampaw cocked her head. "I'm going home. Stay safe. And don't steal kits will you!"

Featherheart opened his mouth to object, but Creampaw was already racing out the d-

en. Featherheart sighed, he fluffed out his thick-ish fur. Featherheart padded over to the bedding, Lightspark and Quillflight were curled together, sleeping. Ravenkit and Foxkit in

middle.

I know how it feels to see your kits taken away. It didn't exactly happen to me. But I didn't raise my kits. . . besides Pinefrost. He pushed his muzzle onto the sweet soft moss, it didn't smell of wind or stone like in the mountains, but it would do fine. It was doing fine lately.

StarClan, why do I need those kits? He asked himself silently.

"No Foxclaw! I cannot tolerate this!" A voice hissed and yelled.

Featherheart pricked his ears, he recognized that voice. "Lightspark calm down." Anot-

her cat replied softly, "they need the kits to survive."

"Ravenkit and Foxkit are mine to keep." Lightspark snarled back.

Featherheart watched silently inside a bush. He saw Foxclaw's ginger fur and Lightspar-

k's bright one. Lightspark was spitting furiously at Foxclaw, she seemed as if she would attack the starry cat at any heartbeat. Foxclaw narrowed her leaf-green eyes.

"You were never like this, Lightspark," she meowed coldly. "This is a StarClan order. Far more important than a leader's order. If your leader said: 'I'll take this kit. On StarClan's behalf' wouldn't you listen?"

Lightspark shook her broadhead, her claws flexed in and out. "Over my dead body."

"If you don't hand them over, your kits will be cursed. Living a terrible life."

Lightspark gasped, looking shocked.

"Fine, Foxclaw," Lightspark mumbled, "it's better than a curse. Ravenkit . . . Ravenkit

has already been punished because of me."

"We all know that's not true." Foxclaw mewed softly, she licked her kit's forehead lovin-

gly. "Now go you crazy furball." She purred.
