The first smile

The next morning, you woke up laying in George's arms on Fred's bed. He was still asleep but holding you tightly to his chest. You saw the door the Fred's room creep open slightly so your looked up and saw Molly and Arthur walking in. You quickly closed your eyes and pretended to be asleep to avoid any questions you didn't want to answer. 'Oh look at them Arthur!' Molly said empathetically. 'They look like they had a long night.' Arthur whispered back quickly, before backing out of the room and closing the door, taking Molly with him.

When you opened your eyes again, you saw George staring at you which you didn't expect so you jumped. You closed your eyes as you jumped and help them closed for a moment but quickly opened them when you heard faint laughs come from George's mouth. When you looked at him you laugh him smiling and laughing a little which made you smile. The first smile after the war...

'How long have you been awake for?' You asked a little confused but still smiling at him. 'I heard the door open and panicked thinking you left me in here alone but then I felt you in my arms so I knew it was mum and I didn't want her to say anything to me so I kept my eyes closed.' He responded to you. That was the most he said in one go since that day. 'I miss him y/n' he said to you sadly. 'I miss him too Georgie' you said back, not knowing what else to say.

'The funerals tomorrow... The whole family's coming but I know that's not what he would of wanted.' he began to explain to you. 'Mums picked out the worlds most depressing songs but I know he wouldn't of wanted that because we talked about it all the time. It sounds stupid, I know but we always talked about dying while doing a stupid prank and then we'd plan out funeral... He wanted people to carry his casket into a church to the song rain on me because it was the most random thing he could think of. He then said that he only wanted the people to be there that were with him when he died or that he actually liked. To be able to get into the church you had to say the password which was 'mischief managed' and then you all sat down in a circle. Everyone would then share their favourite memory with him before he left the church to the song I will survive.' George laughed at the last part but then you laid in silence as he waited for you to answer but he didn't notice that he made you cry so when he heard you sniffle he looked down confused.

No, y/n, that wasn't meant to make you cry!' He said while awkwardly laughing while wiping the tears off of your cheeks. 'I know, but that's what he would of wanted! Fred... Fred liked that sort of stuff...' You looked up at George and he smiled. 'Yeah... he did didn't he...'
