Oahu, HawaiiThe air felt fuzzy and chilling. The cooling breeze makes the birds chirp on the east side, probably floating with the airy wind. The sound of the cracking wooden planks floor I'm sitting above, filled my ears. The dog from the neighbor barked and there goes the man on the bike throwing the latest newspaper of the week. His bike always peeped through the streets, catching everyone's attention.
I kept my fingers on the Braille circles, continuing to read Shakespeare. My fingers glide along the circles going from line to line, informing myself of the next assignment for school. "Gosh, this is so boring." I roll my eyes and stopped my fingertips from reading. The scent of exhaust gas filled my nostrils, there was a loud truck noise coming from the left side driving past my house.
The wooden floor trembles by the footsteps, the tremble, and the steps were closer to my presence. It was my mother's steps and tremble. I could feel the heat of her body standing next to me. "Oh, we have new neighbors, that is so exciting! I should begin making a welcome basket!" Her cheering voice echoed in my brain, her warm hand touches my shoulder giving me excitation. "We should welcome them!" She let go of my shoulder and took her path away from me. I heard the door closing and open again with a crack.
Lighter gallops stepped on the floor coming for me. A four-legged friend that felt soft a friend that pants exhaustively with joy. A wet button that also felt ragged touches my hand. His nose. I bent down touching his soft skull. "Who might they be, Mustard? Do you have any idea?" A single bark came out, licking my fingers. "Hm. Strange."
*****,
She stepped out of the car and looked at the new family's house. She moved her lip to the corner creating a dimple on her left cheek. She throws her skateboard to the ground and steps on it, skating away while her mother was calling for her. She followed with her skateboard beneath her feet the path of the street, skating past the wooden colorful houses.
One was green, one was pink the other one was yellow. The clean light grey house catches her eyes, especially when she sees a young girl sitting at her elevated veranda from a distance. She sits on a brown basket chair with her feet on the pillow she's sitting on. Her head was looking down and her right arm was constantly moving, corners of the book were sticking out. She realized that the girl was reading. A grown golden retriever was lying next to the chair taking an awfully good nap.
Her focus on that girl makes her trip out of her skateboard her knees hitting the ground. "Fuck!" She groans. The sound of her voice makes the girl's head shot up. She stands back up with a groan and watched the girl stare in one direction. She directly stands up and did as if nothing happened. She tries to make eye contact with the girl, but she didn't get any attention back. The girl's head got back down and reads her book again. She frowned confused and scratches her scalp, not understanding what just happened.
"BILLIE!"
She heard her mother calling for her. She rolls her eyes disturbed. She looked one more time at the girl before skating back to her new house.....
