Warnings: Violent/dangerous situations.

The grass was a little wet.

That's the first thing you noticed when you stepped into the park, littered with dandelions and a few empty water bottles and candy wrappers.

There were no children. No families, no dogs, not even any squirrels you could see around you- just you and your team waiting for a team of serial killers to attempt to murder you.

Oh, and the van of floor ten agents that was sitting on the street by the entrance to the park

It was a little past 9:30, so the sun was burning your eyes a little as you squinted and attempted to make eye contact with Hotch.

Who's stupid idea was it for your team to stand in the middle of a park with your guns and a suspicious looking black van by the entrance and expect a team of professional kidnapping serial murderers to take the bait?

You honestly had no idea, but you were a little glad this idea was the type of stupid that made you feel safe instead of the type of stupid that makes people split up in horror movies where the killer is waiting around the corner to get one person alone.

"This isn't going to work, Hotch. It's too obvious of a set-up." Emily spoke up, testing the waters a little since Hotch was clearly very on-edge.

"I know, that's why this isn't actually the plan" he spoke up, clearly earning the attention of everyone else as you all turned your head to look at him.

"I'm sorry we kept you all in the dark, but given that this is an inside job, we can only trust the seven people here right now. As much as I want to believe the agents in the van aren't in on this, we can never be too careful." he made eye contact with Spencer for a moment before continuing. You noticed it too- he was looking at everyone but he had stopped to linger his eyes on him for an extra moment.

"We know more about the unsub's pattern then we told you in the briefing room, we believe we know who these ubsubs are targeting and why." he motioned to Rossi, indicating that he was also familiar with what Hotch was talking about.

"We didn't connect the dots in our closed door meeting with all the unit chiefs, but when Dave and I were talking about it later, we figured out that they are talking people that they believe would make good couples and killing them in front of each other, because psychological distress is the ultimate power exertion over the people they despise, FBI agents. We don't know why they feel this disdain toward agents, but we do think we know who they are going to want to abduct first." he glanced down for just a fraction of a second before ripping his gaze from the grass up to Spencer.

"We believe Reid is their first target from our team" he spoke, and you saw Spencer freeze.

Truly, his chest stopped moving and he stopped anxiously shifting from the front of his foot to the back of it. You saw him blink a few times, almost like he was trying to wake himself up from something as he looked around at the team, wanting someone to tell him they were joking, or that Hotch was wrong.

He let in a shaky breath and you saw him clenching his fists before wrapping his hands loosely across his torso, trying to soothe himself in any way possible. He was nodding because he understood what Hotch said, he just really didn't know how to take the news.

Hotch placed a hand on Spencer's shoulder, making him jump a little as he looked at Hotch who had an honest to god sorrowful look in his eyes. He looked down to the poor trembling genius, not knowing the extent of why Spencer was so afraid of this situation in particular, because he had been in similar situations before, but simply chalked it up to be the tenseness of the situation, and the face that the entire FBI was after these people, and they had yet to have an super viable leads.
