Milly woke up and looked at her phone, it was 10:23.

"Huh, I got 2 more hours of sleep. I'll see if Carter's awake." she got out of bed and went to knock on his door. Before she knocked she put her ear to the door and heard him talking.

"Aww, he talks to himself. That's so cute!" Milly thought and giggled to herself.

"-that's why I have to put everything I have into this play, for Milly."

She heard him say this and she gasped. She put her hand over her mouth and ran across the hallway to her room without making any noise. Carter opened the door, seconds later.

"Nobodies here," he said and was going to close the door until he saw the rug that goes through the hallway. Usually, it was straight and flat, but now it looked as if someone slipped on it causing it to crinkle and move. "Ugh, curse my observation skills. I could have lived without knowing that a certain someone was overhearing me." He sighed, put on a shirt and went to her door and knocked.

"Shoot, he must've heard me." Milly thought.

Carter smiled and decided against confronting her; at least for now.

"Hey, Milly. Just wanted to ask if you were up."

"Umm, yeah. I'm just getting changed."

"Ok, I'll see you downstairs. I'll make us some breakfast."

"Thanks!"

Carter was making some pancakes when Milly ran down the stairs.

"Careful, or you're going to sprain your ankle again!" Carter laughed. "Are you that hungry?"

"Yes, I usually have breakfast at 8:00, and it's almost 11:00. It smells amazing by the way."

"Thanks."

"Now we have another cook, I knew it was a good idea to have you live with us."

They both laughed.

"I like cooking sometimes. Your dad doesn't cook?"

"Nope, he couldn't cook if his life depended on it."

"I heard that," Mr. Haynes said, appearing behind Milly, "And yes I can cook."

"Sure, dad. We both know what happened last time you tried to cook."

"What happened?" Carter said, intrigued.

"He almost burnt our kitchen down."

"Don't over exaggerate. I just happened to set a dishtowel on fire."

Carter and Milly were laughing and Mr. Haynes chuckled as he filled up his mug with coffee.

"Well, in my defence, cooking is a skill, one that I do not have." He walked out of the kitchen and went back to his office.

Carter finished making breakfast and after they ate, it was noon.

"Oh my gosh, isn't it crazy how the play is in 3 hours? It feels like yesterday when I signed up for it."

"I know," Carter said. He and Milly were talking on the couch, discussing the play and other things.

"Wow, so much has happened and it's only been a couple of weeks."

"Yeah, it feels like it's been months." When he said this, his face lit up.

"What is it?"

"Oh, um, I'll be right back," Carter said and went upstairs. Minutes later, he came back down with a small white box in his hands.
