"Ow!" she looked at her ankle and noticed that it was sprained. The man was getting closer now and she noticed a small object in his hand glistening in the streetlight. He had a small pocket knife in his hand.
"HELP!" she was screaming at the top of her lungs and started to cry.
Then someone appeared.
"Get away from her." The stranger said and punched the man directly in the face, it all happened so fast. The man got up and started swinging his knife at the man who came to rescue her. It was too dark to see his face but she felt like she knew this person.
"Ahhh!" With one more shout, the man was knocked out on the pavement of the sidewalk.
"Are you alright?" The stranger bent down and their face came into the light and she recognized the person.
"Carter!" She reached up and hugged him. "I'm so happy to see you." Tears were streaming down her face as she buried her head into his hoodie.
"Milly? Oh my gosh, are you okay?" Carter said, realizing who she was and returned the hug.
"I think so, but my ankle hurts a lot."
"It's going to be okay, I've got you." he started to carry her, bridal style.
"Thank you so much, Carter, but you don't have to carry me. I think I'm able to walk."
"No, you can't. If you sprained your ankle then you can't apply pressure onto it. I'm taking you to the nearest hospital."
"B-but-."
"No buts, it's not that far away. Just relax and we'll be there in no time. As long as I've got you, you won't be walking."
This made her blush but she didn't want to show him, so she just put her head over his shoulder and let him carry her.
They arrived at the hospital and they called her dad and bandaged her ankle.
"Thanks to your friend here, your ankle will be fine." The nurse said.
"Thank you."
"Okay now you just sit tight and wait for your dad," she turned to Carter, "A call to the police has been made."
"Great."
The nurse walked out of the room, leaving Milly and Carter.
"Carter, thank you so much, I don't know what I would have done if you hadn't come."
"It's fine but what were you doing in that place? It can be very dangerous, especially at night."
"Oh, my dad couldn't come pick me up so I had to cut through the neighbourhood."
He sighed.
"Milly, don't ever let that happen again, if I didn't come something really bad could have happened. Promise me that you'll ask for a ride next time."
"I promise."
"Thank you. How come you didn't tell me that you didn't have a ride? I could have walked you home."
"I-i'm," She was looking at the floor now, "I'm sorry." she started sobbing.
"Hey, it's fine, I just don't want you getting hurt." He pulled her into a hug.
"It's just that I didn't feel like I should bother you."
"If I'm helping you it will never be a bother to me. I know I haven't acted like one recently, but I'm still your friend."
"Thank you so much, Carter. Same here." She looked at him and noticed that he was wearing his glasses but not a loose flannel, like before. Now he had a grey hoodie (That had some wet spots from her tears with some mascara smudges) with a sherpa jacket over it and jeans on with dark blue sneakers. She looked at him in the eyes and he was looking back at her. His gaze dropped from her eyes to her lips and she noticed it. She leaned in a little and so did he. They were inches away from each other and she closed her eyes, but then the door burst open and Milly and Carter were brought back to reality.
