A couple of hours later, Carter returned home and went up the stairs, where he heard music coming from Milly's room. He knocked on her door.
"Come in!" Milly said as she turned her music off. He opened the door and saw her laying down on her stomach on her bed doing homework.
"Hey."
"Hey, my dad is working late today so he won't be coming home until later."
"You were alone?"
"Yeah, it's fine." Milly knew that Carter was going to be a little bothered by her being alone.
"If you were lonely then you could've called me and I would've come back."
"If I were lonely I would've called you, trust me. But I wasn't, it's fine,"
Carter sat down on the bed next to Milly.
"I do trust you," he said slyly as he smirked and within a heartbeat, he flipped her upside down on the bed and he was now on top of her. His hands on her wrists and their stomachs almost pressed against each other. He was letting his bad side get the best of his usual tame behaviour. Milly realized the compromising position she was in and started to blush. Carter smirked and moved in closer. "I'm just making sure that you would've called me."
Milly turned her head to the side to not show her red cheeks, but he could still see how embarrassed she was. She caught the scent of his cologne, it smelled almost citrusy and had a faint floral scent too. She liked the smell of it on him and it reminded her of the time in the library.
"What's the matter?" Carter's smirk now turned into a wolfish grin as he whispered into her ear, "You're not resisting,"
Milly hadn't noticed that she wasn't resisting until Carter said so. Usually, she would be struggling and telling Carter to stop teasing her, but she wasn't. Milly wasn't in the most comfortable situation, but maybe, just maybe, she was enjoying it. She couldn't think of anything to say so she just stared away from his eyes because she was too embarrassed. "Cat got your tongue?" Carter said when Milly turned her head to the side, speechless. He gazed into her dark brown eyes, despite them being turned away from him, he couldn't help coming closer. She turned her head back to his face and was met by his handsome hazel eyes. They stared at each other and the room went silent, only the sound of each other's breathing could be heard. Then as if to break the silence, the home phone rang, thus ending their moment together.
Carter turned a little pink when he realized the position he had put her in and immediately he removed himself from her, flustered. Milly scurried out of the room and ran down the stairs, her face a bright shade of pink, and answered the phone. It was her aunt and she chatted with her for a bit. When she finished the call she ran back up the stairs.
"What am I supposed to say to him?" Milly thought. "Just thinking about it makes me flustered, I can't believe that it just happened." She arrived on the second floor and heard the shower running.
"Phew," she let out a sigh of relief, "Now I don't have to talk to him for a while," She lay on her bed and stared at her ceiling, thinking. She texted Bess about the events that occurred. "Oh boy, dinner is going to be very awkward."
Carter was drying his damp hair with a towel in the mirror when he heard the sound of the garage door open.
"Her dad must be back," he thought, "I still can't believe I let my other side take over. This isn't the first time my behaviour has gotten out of hand, like in the library," he muttered to himself. "Now what am I supposed to say to her? I think I might've messed up big time. I just had to push it," he sighed, "My lustful side just couldn't be patient and I had to put Milly in another situation like that." he walked out of the bathroom and heard Milly greeting her dad downstairs. He went into his room and laid on his bed.
"I can't let this keep happening. She might not even like me and I would be taking advantage of her feelings. Although it's going to be hard for me to stop, I just look at her and it's almost impossible for me not to throw myself at her." He put on a shirt and pants and went downstairs where he found Milly cutting some vegetables for supper. Her dad wasn't in the room and Carter was hoping that he would show up soon. This was going to get very awkward if he didn't come in there soon.
"Do I just act as if I forgot about what happened?" he thought. "Screw it."
"Hey, do you need any help with supper?" he said as he smiled at her. Not his sly smile like before, but an apologetic smile.
"Sure, I'm making salad and pasta. Can you start stirring the sauce?"
"Yeah." Carter helped Milly in the kitchen and it wasn't as awkward as he thought it was.
They were laughing while cooking and they talked about Romeo and Juliet tomorrow. It seemed as if the 'incident' never happened and all was normal. After supper, she did some studying and after that, went to bed.
Milly was laying in bed, her whole house silent except for the faint sound of birds chirping. It was around 6 a.m. and Milly had woken up and could not go back to sleep. After laying there for a while she heard something downstairs, coming from the kitchen. She knew it wasn't her dad because he didn't wake up this early on a Saturday, meaning it must've been Carter.
"What's he doing up this early?" she thought as she silently went down the stairs.
Carter saw her and smiled. "What are you doing up so early?" He was sitting down with a cup of coffee in his hands. "I hope I didn't wake you."
"No, I was already awake. What about you?"
"I don't know, first play jitters I guess."
"You don't have to worry, I'm sure you'll do great."
"Thanks."
They talked until it was around 8 o'clock and Milly's dad woke up.
"Hey, early birds. Too excited about the play?"
"Yeah," Carter said.
"What time is it supposed to start?"
"4:00, but we have to be there by 3:30 for rehearsal," Milly added and yawned.
"I think you two should catch up on some well-deserved sleep. You have a busy day ahead of you.
"Ok, see you in a couple of hours."
Carter woke up and yawned, he stared at his alarm clock and put on his glasses, it read 10:24 a.m. The house was silent except for the occasional rustle from Mr. Haynes in his office.
"I assume Milly is asleep. She is going to be so amazing today, I just hope I'm good as well, for her sake. She deserves the award more than anyone else, she's trained and done so much for this play," he laughed, "She even put up with me. That's why I need to put everything I have into this play, for Milly." he said this and then he heard a small gasp.
