I didn't weep. I didn't sob, not even shed a tear. I didn't panic. No fear made my hand shake. My grip was light, careful and right. Soldiers filled the castle halls. Screams engulfed the place along with smoke and the sound of steel clashing with steel. The kingdom has fallen. The humans have found us.
Anger clouded my mind, red spots danced within my sight. I slashed my sword to every human that got in our way, their mortal blood splattering through the air and my flesh all alike. I was only ten when I made my first kill. One of the elf folks tried to tell my queen mother the card-house that I was running. The nosy asshole got lost in his way to the throne room and found my arrows pierced in his chest instead. The memory of his pale golden blood that streamed down like waterfalls still gives me feeling of euphoria.
Rose tailed us from behind, her hand shaking as she awkwardly grasped an elongated steel to protect herself. Her eyes are unfocused, and when a man clad in mail swung his sword at her, she froze and stared in horror. My dagger hit the man's throat in a split second and blood came gushing through his neck. Rose whimpered and I bit my lip to stop harsh words from escaping my mouth.
Eurea shouted in alarm but I felt the presence even before it came into view. I swung my sword backwards and it tore into the flesh with the hard kiss of steel. I clenched my jaw and tilted the hilt on one side, making the man gasp and death came before his eyes. I saw how his pupils lost its light and an overwhelming feeling of relief and triumph washes over me.
Blood splattered all over my face when he coughed for one last time, and I pulled my sword up as his body escalated down the cold glided floor. Rose looked horrified and my patience was running thin now. I wiped the blood from my eyes and spit some of the vile liquid out. It tastes metallic and sour. Mortal shit.
"Swing that frail arm of yours or I will leave you here to die." I spat at Rose. She trembled but nodded nonetheless.
I looked around and noticed Kierran fighting alongside Eurea, his golden curls caught the wind dramatically as he swung his spear with every might. The fear that was once on my cousin's face seemed to have melted. The cream in her hair glimmered as she danced with death. Of her opponents doom, not hers and that's for sure.
"Any word from my brothers?" Sullivan can fight but I am quite uncertain of Lyric. He's still a kid for pixiessake.
"No...my Princess." Rose stammered. Eurea gave naught a glance but shouted,
"In the field. We'll meet them there. We have to leave the halls now"
And we did. We fought our way through. I felt still and calm. I swung my sword with a deadly arch, making sure that their mortal blood are splattered on the floor. These halls are mine. And I will lay blood on those who try to take it from my family. Light welcomed us and it was only then that I realized we are outnumbered.
"Shit" I muttered. Eurea gave me a glance and smiled. An awful smile. Tears are forming in her eyes.
"Where are my brothers, Eurea. Father and Mother, where are they?" I asked, my voice cold and sharp like the steel that I am holding.
Instead of answering, she nodded at Rose. The handmaiden sobbed and took my right hand, pressing a tiara on my palm. Mother's tiara. I tightened my grip on the wretched thing until the scarlet liquid of blood streamed down to soak the ground. But before it reaches the grass, it hardened and shone a bright sheen.
"You have to escape Cielle. The queen of El Malefico will take you into her care, she must and she will. Go south and live." She must've said more but I turned away from her and created a slaughter on my own.
Both swords made of steel and blood felt like an extension of mine own arm. I slashed it to every soldier that dared to take me on. I killed them with a deadly blow, a wide arch, sticking them with the fatal end, and opening their bellies to let their entrails feel the embrace of the El Laurel wind. I heard Eurea shouting. Begging me to stop and retreat. I heard Kierran's protest. I heard Rose's cries. It made it all worse. Slash after slash, stab after stab, I let them taste the sweet kiss of death.
I had no plans on stopping. I had no plans at all. At that moment, all I ever wanted to do was to bleed them to death and let the grounds of where I used to take my practices taste their mortal blood. The sweet stench of death comforted me and urged me to take more lives. La Belleza gave these mortals more to their mundane lives and they repay our kind with treachery in their own twisted ways.
"Adelaide Cielle!" The call made me stop, for a half second our eyes met. His dark eyes boring into mine. Thump. Thump.
In the corder of my eye I saw movement, and I heard a shrill cry from Eurea. Grabbing for a small twisted dagger from the scabbard below my elbow, I used my palm to stop his sword from hitting my face. With the use of my abilities, it stopped when it cut through my flesh and just a space between my bone.
I clenched my jaw and planted the dagger on the small thin flesh at the bottom of his chin. The man's eyes widened in shock, I raised a brow and smirked as I twisted the dagger that made his eyes turn black. Blood caked my face as his body fell down like a bag of turnips.
I faced the Prince with a bored expression and moved my palm, the bright scarlet liquid now escalating back into the flesh. "Turn around and go back to your little kingdom, Prince. This isn't your fight."
I reached down on my inner thigh and then swiftly threw the dirk on the man that ran up to my side. The first Prince of El Malefico gazed at my being with a serious look in his face. His eyes are dark and I saw the strings of russets dancing in his irises. Damn. He's not a kid alright.
Eurea ran up to my side and pressed a jewel encrusted knife on my newly healed palm. "Prince Ekkier, take my dearest cousin away from here. I want you to swear it upon your life that no harm shall befall her. Swear it, Kaisen Ekkier."
She kissed the top of my head and hugged me tight. I couldn't speak. I couldn't move. She's using her abilities on me! All that I could ever do was glare at her. Eurea had tears in her eyes but she still managed to put on a brave smile on her face. Her hands are glowing, keeping me still and frozen.
She looked at the Prince of El Malefico, a threat now in her voice as she said, " Swear this upon your life. You will protect her. Or else, I promise you that no happiness shall ever visit you in this lifetime." My eyes widened, tears now threatening to fall. Eurea.
"I swear it. I'll keep her safe." The Prince didn't even hesitate. An oath spoken from a royalty can be dangerous, but taking an oath from a child of the dawn is fatal. He'll die if he fails to keep it. I've never seen or met anyone so stupid in my entire life. Stupid. He's so stupid.
But Eurea smiled. She brought her hand up to my eye level, glowing a faint white light, and snapped her fingers. Making my body numb, eyesight dark, and mind drift away.
