As I make peace with my past, I became more unsure of who I really am, of what I really want. Before the ruination of El Laurel, I have always wanted to train our own soldiers, to lead our own army.
My people were the peaceful kind, only two out of ten would choose a spear over a quill. It was my dream to finally put down the mist that covers us from our enemies and bring the fight to them. But the little girl's dream was vanquished when soldiers in their enchanted leather armors filled the castle halls and ended us once and for all.
I have chased vengeance for so long that I am lost now that the fight is done even before it began. The young king sits broodily on his father's throne in El Suelo. I heard tidings of the twins of El He Chizo returning to their kingdom in grief and anger. Both kingdoms are to wage war over the other. Word has it that the late King Rouge De Loughrey of El Suelo gave the order in the assassination of the King and Queen of El He Chizo. They're turning on themselves. How pathetic.
"Fuck" I cussed when Night's knuckles came into my view and it was too late when I tried to dodge. There was a sickening crunch when his fist hit my jaw. I stumbled down the grass with a curse upon my lips.
Night knelt down beside me and parted my hair to have a better look on my face. His black eyes glimmered with worry. "Where's your head at, Ad" he cussed in the ancient tongue and placed a hand on my jaw. Fuck, I think he broke it. Pixies be damned.
"Well intact right above my shoulders, thank you very much." The sarcasm made him smile and a laugh escaped from my lips. My face contorted in pain with the sudden movement.
"Let me" he says, a trace of worry and amusement in his voice.
I planted both arms on the ground and held my chin high for him. His hand was warm, calloused and hard from war and training. He muttered a spell and his hand glowed a greenish hue, a searing cold hit my skin and it made me wince in pain. It lasted for only a minute, and then it was done. His thumb grazed softy on my jaw and he moved away when he noticed our closeness. I placed a hand on my cheek and cursed when there was still pain.
Night noticed it and immediately said, "It's the bruise, but it'll be gone in a few days. I'm not really great in healing spells."
"I can't do healing spells at all." I shrugged and stood up.
In a distance, Aiken and Vesna played at swords. Vesna was pushing Aiken through the trees, their blades glowing a bright sheen under the afternoon sun. In the corner of my eye, I saw Night muttering something under his breath. I nudged him by the shoulder and smiled.
"I'm really cool with it. I didn't have my mind on the combat so it's partly my fault."
"Is it because of him?"
I chuckled and nodded. "A bit, yes. I wanna see Aiken lose. Should we follow them?" I didn't wait for his response and trailed along the two.
Word of my betrothal with the first Prince spread like fire, its flames untamed, licking up everything there is and igniting jealousy to those daughters and granddaughters that wanted to share Kaisen's marriage bed. The court sessions have grown restless by the news that the queen encouraged me to focus on the troops. I couldn't be even more thankful. Pixies, talking to the chief clans is like a leech that drains every single blood there is on my body. Greedy witches in their own twisted ways.
Aiken was panting, his face drenched in sweat as he tried to block Vesna's advances. A smiled tugged on my lips when I saw how distracted he is. With the stiff way he held the hilt of his sword, the one second late reflexes, and he's cleary just blocking and never trying to advance his dance.
