I looked down at the table with newspaper. My head was sending me flashbacks from my childhood. I couldn't stop it. All of those fun and beautiful times of our little family. Maybe if I didn't exist things would have been better.
I mean my parents would have been sad a little while , but together they would have gone through it, and started life all over again. But with me here, all I can do is cause more stress. Maybe my mother would have been here, if I wasn't alive. Her cause of death was a sickness called, Dystrophia myotonic. Another thing that she was dealing with was gestational depression.
She was really happy to have me, but she was really scared to go through labor. And she did go through it, but her pain was killing her. My mother always thought that she couldn't be a good mother, that she will fail as a mother. And then after 7 months she was better and her depression was fading away. But when I filled one year, Dystrophia myotonic came to get here. I don't know a lot about that illness, but what I know is that Dystrophia myotonic is a rare disease that causes stiffness in the muscles, in addition to muscle weakness.
The disease can lead to several other ailments. Dystrophy myotonic causes weakness in the muscles, awkwardness and loss of muscles in the hands, eventually also in the forearms. There is a certain weakness in the feet and legs. Weakness in the facial muscles is also typical, both in the temporal muscles, chewing muscles and neck muscles. When the this kicked in, my mother was forced to be in a wheelchair.
My dad will often tell me, how my mom will argue with dad about not sitting in that wheelchair. My dad told me that my beautiful mother will turn the whole house into a court house. Then my mom will leave my dad no other choice than to carry her in bridal style around the house with me in my moms lap. We have a million photos of us laughing and my dad running with me and my mom in his arms. The illness's weakness is due to loss of muscle mass, while the awkwardness is also due to a stiffness, an increased state of tension, in the muscles. Due to the stiffness, problems are often felt with releasing a grip with the hand on command.
My mother went on medical treatment, but we didn't have enough money. My dad worked every day and saved up money to my moms treatments, but she didn't like it. Mom was so ill that she couldn't take care of me and she hated herself for that.
One day she stopped eating, she didn't want to eat anything. She didn't tell my dad, but he could see changes happening to my mom. Her body was so thin, showing of her skeleton trough her dry skin.
And then one day, in the middle of the night my mom went to the bathroom and fainted there. She hit her head on the bathtub and couldn't get up. My dad went looking for my mom, but found her to late. I was six, I had a whole life in front of me, a life where I needed my mom. Sometimes, a thought will come to my mind. Was it my fault that my mom died? She hated herself for not taking care of me, for not being available too. Her depression came because of me.
I looked down at the newspaper my dad was holding. "Did you find a job?" I asked while wiping my tears off my skin. "No, but I will find it. Don't worry. And Sophia called saying that she wanted to take you out to a party, you know that you can go right? You deserve to live your teenage years, don't waste them on my problems" dad said while going to the kitchen.
A sad smile was on his old face. " I am not wasting my teenage years, I am helping my dad" I said while opening the fridge. The coldness from the fridge came on my face like blanket. It was kinda refreshing because of the hot weather outside. We had leftovers from yesterday. I took out the pasta and started making some sauce, but dad stopped me.
"If you are helping me and not wasting your teenage years, then go to the party with Sophia". He said. Dad went to the fridge and took out some tomatoes. "I am not feeling so well dad, maybe another time" I sighed. He raised a eyebrow at me. "That's what you said last time, and the time before that" dad said while cutting the tomatoes.I took out som spices and took a boiler. Dad gave me a look that meant sit and relax, I am making the food. I sat on the wooden chair, looking down at my lap.
"And by the way, Sophia will drag you to the party you know? Even if you don't like it, so you are going" dad said and I sighed. "And please my dear daughter, wear something nice. You look like a burned garlic bread with your big hoodie and sweatpants" he said, while raising his eyebrows again at me.
"Hey! My outfit is fine as heeeellll" I said while walking upstairs as a model. My dad started to laugh, but he was right though. My outfit had no color. I took a quick shower and took some mascara and concealer. Then I took out a dark green crop top and some black sweatpants with pockets on the side on both of my knees and with a big black belt. I had my hair in two French braids and a black cap. Then I took on some gold earrings. The weather was nice but it was still a little chilly outside so I decided to take my long black leather coat with me to the party.
I hope that the party has free food. If not I am going to sue Drew and his parents:)
