I sat in front of my mirror, wondering if my dad and I will ever see the sunlight in our life again. Wondering what did I do to deserve this, wondering what my dad did to deserve this. My dad, he was everything to me. My superhero, the one who will find the light in my darkest times. The one who will make sure I had food in my tummy everyday. The one who will sacrifice everything to me.
If there is one thing I learned from this awful world is that people take their parents for granted. They think that they will be there for ever. They don't appreciate their parents but when they are gone, they are the loneliest people in this universe. They don't have a guide who can help them trough life.
Their guide is gone, so is their light in the darkness.I still have my guide and my light in my life, but I don't know how long it will last. So now, you are going to ask " Rosabel, what are you truly afraid of?" And I will ponder over this question a hundred times before I answer truthfully "I am afraid of losing the ones I love, the one who are the dearest to me" but that's something I never told anyone. That's my secret, a secret I am afraid that one day will come true.
I remember a time when I was 5, I was on the beach with my family. My mom and I were playing in with water, splashing around. Dad was sitting on the sand and laughing at us while taking pictures. The sun was shining on us, but for me the sun chose its star and it was mom.
She was the one with sun shining on her, her long black hair was a little wet at the bottom of her hair but the rest was dry and flying in the air, the beards flying around her like she was a fairy or something. But my mom was a fairy, a really beautiful one too.
Then a thought came to my tiny head. I ran to my dad, mom was still in the water with her long white sundress. "Dad, you said that God says that parents are the most valuable ones in the world and in the after world, right? Then why do some kids don't have a father or a mother? Small kids with tiny hands like mine, they don't have parents why?" I asked dad while showing my dad my hands. Dad stopped taking pictures of mom. But he was still admiring her, how she was standing down there playing and laughing in the water. Moms dress was wet to her ankles.
She was smiling like this was her last day on this planet. Dad let out a little laugh and then answered. "Can you imagine a world where every kid in this world had his/hers parents?" He asked me, a little sad smile forming on his lips. "Yes, everyone would be happy and live a long good life with their parents while eating chocolate ice cream" I said, like it was nothing. My dad turned his gaze to me, looking at me with his brown eyes.
He started to laugh a little "No they wouldn't. If every kid in this world had his parents he wouldn't respect them, he will take them for granted. He would be stubborn and he would be a spoiled kid." Dad said while smiling at my mom. She was still in the water, the sun shining on her golden skin. My mother was a real fairy.
"See my kid, right now we know that kids without parents live a hard life, right? So we try to be the best kid to our parents, we take care of them , we spend time with them and we are nice to them. Because we know that one day they won't be here, one day we won't have them. The kids without parents in this world is like little examples of what would happen if you lose your parents." Dad said.
A little wind came and brushed my hair to all directions, I looked like Minnie the mouse with two ears on my head, just not the cute type. Dad brushed my hair with his fingers, laughing. "That makes sense, dad. But can we go now and buy some chocolate ice cream? A small ice cream, because my hands are sooooo tinyyyy" I said while waving my hands in front of my dads face. "I know my princess , but one day you will grow up and hit puberty and then your hand will be the size of the Bigfoot's hand." He said while standing up. "What's pur.. erty?" I asked looking all confused at dad.
Dad started to laugh. "That's when you change from princess to Bigfoot" dad said while running down to mom. "Dad, Bigfoot is a cute creature. And I am telling grandma on you!!!" I screamed and ran to my parents. Mom started to throw water at us and then we all went to the ice cream shop, my mom smiling and my dad laughing.
I was truly happy but my happiness didn't last for long, cause my fear came. Now tell me , what's your biggest fear?
