Her parents had gone to bed by the time Luna got back downstairs, the only people left on the couch were Mason and Carter, watching some NCAA division game.
"Who's playing?"
"Not me"
"Okay Mason thank you for that useful piece of information. You guys want something to drink?" She walked into the kitchen and pulled open the fridge, grabbing two beers, a bottle of Bellini and frozen raspberries. She got a glass out of the cabinet above the sink and walked back to the living room, putting everything on the salon table and started unscrewing the bottle of the bubbly pink Martini.
"Thanks Jai"
"No problem Carter." Luna answered mindlessly as she put the raspberry's in her glass and started pouring the peach prosecco.
"Yeah thanks sissie, but cocktails on your own tho..."
"Yeah..."
"Isn't that a bit more than you're supposed to be pouring in a wine glass?"
"I can make my own cocktail just fine Mason."
"What happened to you? Was it that guy you were with last night huh? Who's he?"
"I'm fine Mason"
"Delorian said you haven't called her since she saw you before your date last night?"
"I was tired last night and just wanted to sleep, I explained that to Lola already."
"But"
"Can you leave it alone, please? I just wanna watch the game and go to bed, yeah?" Her voice was on the edge of breaking and her whole body tensed up, she might just need something stronger that the martini she just swallowed
"Okay fine, I just wanna make sure you're okay on your own, you're still my little sister. And go easy on your drink, you're not supposed to shot cocktails."
"I'm sorry for snapping at you Mase, I think it's time for me to sleep, goodnight."
She got up with her empty glass and the still mostly full bottle and walked up stairs to her room. She put it on the cabinet in her bathroom and turned on the shower, stripped and got in. She sat on the floor and let the hot water pour down on her while she sipped on the bottle of sparkly sweetness. As the makeup washed away, the handprints and bruises became visible again and the memories she tried so hard to oppress, resurfaced.
The sounds of vases being knocked over and breaking. The flowers left to die in a puddle of water and glass on the ground.
The sound of slamming doors and creaking furniture, her muffled screams that eventually turned into silent sobs as she slowly gave up.
The sound of clothes being ripped, a belt being unbuckled and his groans.
The sound of the last rough breaths he took before he calmed down and redressed himself, how she heard his footsteps retreating, until the last thing she heard was the door opening and closing, before she passed out.↠↠↠↠↠↠↠↠↠
Carter had stayed silent as the sibling had talked on the couch, he had acted as if he was too focused on the game as he heard the edge in both their voices, trying to get their point through. When Luna had gotten up and left, Mason slumped back into the couch.
"Any key changes in the game?"
"I see it too Mason, I'm worried too, she just needs some time to process whatever this is. I'll look after her at work okay?"
"Yeah thanks man, you always did that."
"What you mean?"
