A new start

Life was great, I went back to school, after being "extremely ill" due to chicken pox.

My brothers were as annoying and overprotective as ever, but that was never going to change.

I got quite a surprise on my first day back, there was a new student, Max, he was absolutely drop-dead gorgeous in every way. Of course, I turned my eyes away so as not to draw attention to my staring, as everyone was talking to me, asking questions and all that. Nosy much?

I sat next to him as it was the only seat available. I expected him to ignore me, as he didn't know me before my unexplained absence but he turned in his seat to face me.

"Hey, baby girl." My interest in him dropped at that. He was clearly one of those boys who thought everything of himself.

I rolled my eyes at him and turned my attention to the board, trying to pay attention to the teacher. I saw his smirk drop when I didn't give him any attention. He didn't bother me after that.

I was getting up after the bell rang, packing my books and heading towards the corridor when I felt a strong hand pull me into a closet. I turned around to meet, the boy who had tried to talk to me before. I glared at him.

"What do you want."

He looked surprised at my sudden hostility but masked that quickly, laying on a perfect poker face. "Dude, chill, I just wanted to ask for your number, cutie." He said, winking. I raised an eyebrow, showing him no response. He looked uncomfortable, clearly he had never had a girl reject him before. I turned and walked away, bumping into John. I looked up. He looked mad, but he stormed past me, grabbing the new boy by the collar and slamming him against the wall.

"Oi, listen here Max, stay the fuck away from my sister or you'll regret being born." He threatened a shocked looking Max.

He then linked his arm through mine and accompanied me towards my next class, looking merry. Before he could yell at me and blame me for talking to a boy, I said.

"I wasn't talking to him I swear, he asked for my number but I didn't tell him."

"I know." He simply replied, his smile growing wider. "I'm very proud."

The rest of the day was a blur, I didn't pay any attention in any of my classes, naturally.

When I got home, I was told to go to my room and change into something "presentable" as Jer's girlfriend was coming. I gagged, I really didn't feel like meeting the girl with no taste, I mean, who would drool over my ugly ass gorilla looking older brothers? Apparently, a lot of people.

I got ready, wearing a tight baby blue dress with swirly things on the top part, if I was going to have to meet her, I was gonna do so hot, to let her know that she can't trample over me with her probably too high stilettos. I could already imagine her, blonde hair, blue eyes, the natural.

She surprised me, when she walked into the room, she seemed nice enough. She had black/brown hair, with bright blue eyes, she smiled a lot, and it looked pretty genuine, but never judge a book by its cover and all that shit.

When she saw me she came directly over to me and hugged me, her eyes lighting up. I cringed a bit, I didn't particularly like physical affection, especially from a stranger, but I saw Jeremy glaring at me so I wrapped my arms around her and hugged her back.

"You are gorgeous, I'm so happy to finally meet you! Jeremy's told me so much about you!" She gushed.

I smiled at her. "It's nice to meet you..."
"Hayley." She finished.

"Well, it's nice to meet you Hayley." I said.

We had dinner, talking about school and blah blah blah.

I was getting bored so when everyone was finished, I got up to get dessert.

"I'll come with you!" Hayley chimed in. This was good, it would give me an opportunity. Normally I'd use this time to try and scare all the girls away, but I decided I liked her, she was different. So I just chatted with her.

"So, how did you meet Jer?" I asked politely, making small talk.

"Oh well, funny story actually." She chuckled. "I was running late on my way to work, I'm a fashion designer by the way, and I bumped into him, spilling my coffee all over him. I, of course, apologised profusely and swore to make it up to him by paying for it to be cleaned, but your brother, always the gentleman, refused and said I could make it up to him by getting another coffee with him, and I accepted." She finished. She looked pretty happy reciting the story to me.

"I know you probably don't like me, and think that I'm stealing Jer away from you, but I promise that's not my intention. Plus, we could always go shopping, and I could design clothes for you, I can be like the sister you never had." She winked at me.

"That would be awesome!" I squealed. She was definitely a keeper.

We walked out of the kitchen with the carrot cake.

After dessert Hayley had to go home but as we hugged goodbye she whispered in my ear. "What do you think about me trying to convince your brothers about letting you go out with me and we could have a girls day, get to know each other better ya know?" She asked.

"I'd love that, I'm free pretty much every day." I replied.

I turned to my brothers after she left. "I love her." I stated, and walked up to my room. As I walked past him, Jeremy pulled me into a hug, squeezing so hard I couldn't breathe.

"I'm so glad you gave her a chance, it means a lot." He whispered.

James then grabbed my wrist and pulled me up to his room. Oh yeah, I was sleeping in his spare bed. They still didn't trust me enough for me to be left alone, but I didn't mind. James and I were closer than ever and I always went to him when I was having urges and impulses for self harm. He helped me a lot.

I got changed into my pjs and went to lie down on the spare bed but as I turned around James pulled me up by my waist and threw me on his king sized bed.

"Come sleep with me tonight." He demanded. We watched a movie on his tele until I was almost asleep, he noticed I wasn't very conscious so he tucked me in like he did when I was little, and whispered, "Goodnight kiddo."
